I grew up in a pretty small simple town - the kind where no one locks their cars and the only reason we lock houses is because bears do occasionally break in. Everyone always thought it was so safe, but during a report done while I was in High School, public health records indicated that there were 21 HIV/AIDS patients living in this bucolic little hometown. It surprised a lot of people that simply didn't think 'this kind of thing' existed in their town.

Strange. I was just tested today! At my local GYN, they were supposed to be offering the HIV test and I recently mentioned this on another post here, but they were supposed to offer it and never did for years and years until they recently cleaned house with staff and had new nurses. I'm happy with my new dr! She said I was such a low risk with the HIV questionarre that she normally would not test me, but I'm a paranoid freak and needed to be 100%. I told her that the nurses would not test for it in the past and when patients would ask about it, they would say they tested, but never did! That's what I brought up on another post about hIV the other day. Many, many ladies think they're being tested for HIV when they're actually only being tested for the syphillis and std's! Anyways, I told her that nobody my age had ever been tested that I knew of, even since HS. She said they were changing things big time in our area on that. So I asked if anyone has came back positive yet in my area and she said no!
That was so great to hear. I was glad to hear that she's going to do her job and make sure that everyone knows the test is available. That's awesome!
Anyways, so that leads me to answer your question. Sorry, I really get talkative. Lol. Nope, as far as I know, I haven't ever known anyone with it.
