LayaSpot Questions

So, I just posted a review of this toy on my blog and and am rereading some reviews here. I am seeing some discrepencies and have a few questions for you.

Some reviewers state that this is a waterproof toy but my instructions clearly state that it is only splashproof. Perhaps the instructions have changed? Maybe Fun Factory decided it wasn't really waterproof? If you have this toy, what did your instructions say?

Furthermore, a few people said that they received silicone based BodyFluid with their LayaSpot but I received their water based lube and, again, my instructions said not to use silicone based lube (I believe, can't find them).

Also, I think it's just me but my Layaspot pretty much smelled god awful when I got it. Anyone else?

Just looking for different experiences with these things..

I've heard that fun factory toys can stink to high heaven, and I have no idea why they would because they're supposed to be 100% silicone. I have other silicone toys and they don't smell at all. Maybe it's not the toy itself but the packaging that surrounds it? Sorry I'm not much help, but the smell that people talk about with FF toys is enough for me to be wary of buying one.

I have since pitched my instructions, but I think mine said splashproof rather than waterproof. I got the Toyfluid (water-based) lube, and mine was smell-free! All of my FF toys have been totally odorless, actually.

OOH! I just went to the Layaspot page here at EF to check the materials, and it says it's Thermoplastic Elastomer, not silicone. OOPS! Maybe that's why it smelled?
TPE is not far off in reekiness from Thermoplastic Rubber. :p I had a toy in TPR once and I couldn't even use it because it stunk so bad.

Hope that helps to answer the reasons for the smell!

OH MY GOD! I ignored this post for awhile because I thought it was about "LAYAWAY" spot. Who knows why... All those times shopping with my mom as a child I guess when they asked "Will this be cash or layaway?"

I think it probably is more splashproof than waterproof, even though my review says otherwise. We're all developing as reviewers and learning these subtle differences and mistakes are bound to arise. I always check the reviews, descriptions, specs, and any info I can find from the manufacturer before I purchase a waterproof toy. That said, I've had some "waterproof" toys that really weren't all that waterproof!

It is neither TPE NOR Silicone. It is Elastomed which, according to FF, is about as safe as you can get. All the confusion makes me think that perhaps FF has changed materials or at least what they call it over time.

Where have you heard they can stink? I've yet to find someone else with the same experience but this intrigues me.

I never purchased a Fun Factory toy that had a stink. I love them and they hold up so well despite my hard use. Their motors are also first rate.
Splash proof vs waterproof...a subtle but important difference. Some of my prior toys were so difficult to clean as they had to be protected from even a drop of water. Splash proof is a major improvement.

Mine said splash proof, no smell at all, and a little sample packet of bodyfluid. I do believe I received bodyfluid with both my FF Elastomed products (this and my smart balls). I got toyfluid with all my silicone toys from Fun Factory. I don't remember anything being said about silicone lube not being safe with the LAYAspot, and actually silicone lube is fine on TPR/TPE/Elastomer/Elas tomed materials. Here is the link to the pdf manual. link

Thanks for that Bulma. I was incorrect but I could have swore it read silicone only. I guess it's just luck of the draw with the lube they give you.

I'm so tempted to collect more than one LayaSpot in different colors, just because they're so freaking cute.

I've never had a Fun Factory toy that had any odor whatsoever. I've owned Sinnflut Intensity, Sinnflut Fantasy, SmartBalls, Delight, and Bootie.

I have two silicone FF toys and received silicone lube (which I didn't use) with both of them. I wondered that too.

Unfortunately, I have since pitched my instructions and the Layaspot...which saddens me deeply. After 2 years of increasingly louder use, it finally quit. The battery terminals looked slightly corroded, so perhaps taking it in the shower so often was not a good idea.

But no, it didn't smell when I got it..maybe the packaging?

2 years of frequent use seems to be about the lifespan of the Layaspot. My girlfriend and I noticed that ours did the same; it got louder over time and basically stopped working after about two years or so. Ours was never used in the shower or tub, although we did wash it in the sink. Ours ended its life with a grinding noise which sounded like there were gears or something in the motor which gave out. We just loved it to death, I think.

I think they use different materials on different toys. We got their Lovering, and while the removable clitoral nub had no smell, the ring itself had a very distinct scent. It made me nervous because the manual only touted the silicone but said nothing about the other material, and we have to watch out for any latex content in our toys.

"Loved it to death" I like that

Wow.. After reading all these things about it, I just took the Layaspot off my wish list.. I'll have to rethink that. =\ Shame.

I just bought this toy. I am enjoying it immensely . Especially, for me, when pressure is added it is great. I like how small it is.

Hearing it lasts only two years that sounds bad and wish it would last longer but I've had toys give out only a few months, so that isn't too worrying to me. "loving it to death" very cute love that.

Mine had no odor and said water resistant in the instructions. though did come with silicon lube which I've learned from Eden that isn't good with the type of material it has on the toy. So I haven't used it.

So far I've kept it handy can't wait to try this weekend with my bf.

I've only taken mine in the shower once as it says splashproof and I don't want to get too much water around it.

Mine was also completely odorless. Typically, if something has a smell to it, I don't feel comfortable using it.

I received two of them in the mail. Mine says splashproof and one came with water lubricant and the other with silicone lubricant.

I use mine externally, so neither lube nor waterproofness has been an issue for me. In my opinion however, the battery case is not tight enough to be submerged in water (such as a bathtub).

My layaspot did not smell. It's made of hard plastic and elastomer, so it is silicone lube compatible. Mine said splash proof, not water proof.

I looooooove my layaspot. <333

I have had two of these (both arrived with the BodyFluid Lovegel)but neither had a smell to it, although some of the other Fun Factory toys I have purchased do indeed.
The packaging says "Splash-proof" as does the manufacturer's website --For sure I would say not water-proof since the battery top just pops back on!-- where you can also get the user manuals in PDF.

Mine didn't come with any lubricant and I lost my directions so I didn't know that it had all those other pulsations other than High and Low

But I found their directions online.

»LAYAspot« is made of ‘Elastomed’:
skin-friendly, odorless, extremely
durable and easy to clean.

Mine doesn't smell anymore so it was obviously the packaging,

I've had mine for... four years now? I took mine in my pool on a couple of occasions, and in the shower too. Never had a problem. So unless construction changed over the years, I'd call it waterproof.
