how much does packaging influence your purchase? for me, the gawdy and tacky packaging is a total turn off- even if it has high ratings! should you really judge a lube by its cover?

I agree, I tend to be turned off by ridiculous packaging. I like things to be nicely designed and I am definitely more inclined to purchase those sorts of things.

In general no I wouldn't be turned off a highly rated lube if I didn't like its packaging. I'm not buying it for what it looks like, I'm buying it for how it works.

That's pretty much my feelings too. I don't have to look at the packaging longer than it takes me to get my stuff out of it, so if I don't like it, in the trash it goes, lol.

I agree also, lately I have been looking for lubes with pump type tops. They make it so much nicer to dispense.

Performance is the main thing though.

Yes I LOVE pump tops, my husband's favorite is the wet bare naturals but it's not a pump, if it was I think it'd be our absolute go to lube.

Yes, the gawdy packaging, for me, is a huge turn off, and not just with lube. I hate buying any adult products with tacky names, pictures, etc, it just makes it feel so cheap.

Actually, the packaging is a big influence on whether I buy it or not. Aesthetics are actually the first thing I look for, and then size and everything else.

I hate packaging that is a hassle to hide in the recycling, and I will make an effort to avoid that situation.

Packaging plays a fairly big part for me. If packaging on a toy I like the look of is nice to continue housing my new toy, Im more likely to buy.
But even if a toy I really want just has basic packaging, I'll still buy.

Packaging is really important to me. I want something that is going to look professional and cute, not tacky and sleazy! I also go on reviews though, if the product is cute and the reviews suck... I won't purchase that item.

I don't see why it should matter either way. Lube is just lube ugly bottle or pretty and attractive. With me I could care less either way as long as it gets the job done its all good.

Pretty packaging draws my attention at first glance, but ease of use one-handed makes a bigger difference.

Sounds divine!! on the wish list.

ALane
My Husband purchased this product for me and I had a horrible allergic reaction to this lube. The ingredients in Pink Water Lube include: Aspartame, a man-made product that has been the subject of consumer controversy for years and also Parabens- which are man-made chemicals that are extremely harmful to your body and have been linked to premature aging, weight gain, depression, and are also an endocrine disruptor. Women need to consider organic options, and (breast) cancers. Ladies, proceed with caution. It is very important to be conscious about the products you use, especially ones such as these.

It really adds to the look and feel of the product. If you need to get it out of a high quality and nice packaging it just makes you feel you received true value for your money even if you don't really use the packaging too much afterwards. This is true to all kinds of stuff not just sex toys.

not a big factor for me , usually more focused on whats inside

As long as the packaging looks functional, it doesn't matter much to me. More attractive packaging will sway my opinion some, but ultimately with a lubricant, I want function! It won't be seen that often, anyway.

I don't need discreet packaging, but I tend to veer toward it anyway. I also prefer pumps.
09/14/2011
I won't shy away from buying a toy or lube if I don't like the packaging. It's a huge plus, though, if the packaging is either plain or tasteful (or in the case of high-end toys, elegant). Drawings or photos of naked models annoy me a bit, simply because it just seems tacky.

I used to pay little attention to lube packaging besides practical considerations, i.e. how does the lube get from the bottle to where it needs to be. Lube with an easy pump top was pretty much all I cared about.
And then I found Ride. As I discussed in my review (link) the packaging of Ride really appealed to me. It was western, masculine, and I felt it really meshed well with me personally. I used to not consider a lube bottle to be one of the things that "says something" about who you are... but now I do *shrug*

I generally buy lube once if the bottle grabs my attention. I wont buy it if it looks totally ridiculous, nor will I buy it again if it does not perform as well as something similar. I do like to change it up and switch brands now and then, just to see what is out there. But to answer the packaging question, if it looks ridiculous, it probably is.

I have to admit, if the packaging isn't appealing... I won't buy it. If the company can afford to employ good packaging designers, then they can probably afford to employ good toy makers and the quality will be great all around. Whether or not this is true... I tend to use that philosophy with everything. Hasn't failed me yet!
