i would gladly give toys away that i don't or haven't used! but would NEVER use a toy that someone else had used! yuck!
Would you participate in a toy recycling program? Would you give away old toys?

I would give away my old toys, but I wouldn't want old toys.
09/22/2011
I would make use of a toy recycling program. I feel kind of wasteful when I'm throwing old toys away. And all too often, I have to throw away otherwise perfectly good vibrators because my ferret's chewed on them. Those motors could be reused in other toys instead of taking up space in a landfill.
Would I sell my toys? Probably not, because I get too attached to them. But if I ever did get a toy that I absolutely couldn't handle, and if it was made of a material I could safely sterilize, then yes, I'd sell it. Same with buying. Would I buy a toy from that recycling program? Probably not, since it looks like they make toys out of all kinds of materials. I wouldn't buy a new jelly toy, so why would I buy a recycled one?
I've bought one "used" toy...though I don't really count it as a used toy at all. The guy who sold it to me never used it, because he wasn't happy with how the toy turned out and the toy company was rather rude to him. I've also recieved unused cock rings and a masturbator from someone I work with, because she didn't want them, had no use for them, and was trying to find someone who would take them.
Another toy forum I'm on has a rather active used toy section, but if anyone posts a toy that can't be safely sterilized, other users notify the poster so the item can be removed. Most of the toys there don't work for the owners any more. They're either too small or too big, or they're not as pleasureable for whatever reason. Or some people have to part with their toys for financial reasons. No point in having unwanted toys cluttering up the toybox if they can find a good home somewhere else. And with that particular company, some models have been discontinued, so your only hope of getting one is through the used threads.

Good idea for the body safe toys like silicone. Because I have some silicone toys I dont use.

It may be a good idea but the "new" online store that is referred to, still does not exist after 2 months.
So NO I won't subsidize something that sounds good but is based upon a LIE.

I don't see myself ever using a used toy but would be happy to give away some of mine. I don't have a large collection but I already have a few toys that have only been used a few times and are now collecting dust as I have similar toys that I find myself reaching for regularly.

OK, I would TOTALLY recycle my sex toys in the sense of sending them somewhere where they could be broken down and turned into something useful. I'm one of those people who admires the nice packaging on some toys but sometimes I'm like "Eeek, that's a lot of waste." And I'm a little ambivalent even about, say, the idea of accepting review items if there's a strong likelihood I wouldn't like them. I just don't like to have extra stuff.
So, along the same lines, I'm going to stick my neck out and say that yes, I would accept previously used toys. I really don't like porous toys, so presuming that a sex toy is made out of silicone, glass, or metal, I'd definitely consider it. It would also depend on what I knew of the toy's history. So, for example, if a friend of mine wanted to give me something and it was pretty sterilizable, I'd take it. Same with a toy that wasn't sterilizable but wasn't used for insertion. My Tango, for example, just doesn't get very dirty. It doesn't require lube and mostly spends time on my clit. If someone whose habits I knew wanted to trade me their Tango for something I have, I'd say "Fabulous!" and give the the Tango an extra deep cleaning, but then mostly be happy to have another Tango.
Likewise, I'd consider something like a silicone or glass swap if someone on these forums with whom I was familiar was passing them along. I basically assume that people who deal with sex toys a lot are also aware of cleaning guidelines and adhere to them, and I'd just sterilize whatever it was, however I could.
I'm not sure about toys primarily intended for anal use, even if they followed the same guidelines (non-porous, silicone, glass, or metal). I think it just bothers me less to think of a toy having been in someone else's vagina than in their butt.
So, yeah, sure, I'd accept nonporous second-handers, and I'd ask my friends if they were interested in me passing along toys that don't work for me.
I think I'd draw the line at re-gifting used sex toys, though.

I think there should be a requirement that recyclable toys are 100% non-porous, sterilizable, and must be in good working and usable condition to be recycled. If those requirements are met then I can see how a toy recycling program would benefit some people.

If the toys are melted down to create new ones like the link provided says then there should be no problem. I don't think many of the people commenting saw that company website that was linked.

In HOW IT WORKS, the last part YOU CASH IT IN section:
"For each sex toy you submit for recycling, you will receive a voucher good for $5 toward the purchase of any product in our recycled sex toy line. You can redeem the vouchers at your local sex toy retailer, or at our online store (coming soon!) using the special code you receive.
Particularly the part where the $5 would pretty much ONLY apply to a purchase from THEIR toy line. Which I could find no evidence of its existence.

I would recycle toys.
12/26/2011
I think I would rather be the first to use all of my personal products... it just seems better to me.
12/26/2011
The program I use (here in the UK) breaks down the toy and recycles the electronic parts. They treat it as they do all electronic waste, like tvs and toasters. It isn't turned into new sex toys - I think they mostly are trying to get the rare metals out of the electronics.
12/31/2011
The recycling doesn't strike me as gross since the entire contents are sealed up, sterilized, and then ground up.
12/31/2011
ya I don't think anyone would want to use someone else's used sex toy...even if it was sterilized

If it's silicone, yes. Anything else...no. Never. Too risky.

I like how that is done. It would be better if the US did that. At least keep the electronics all together.

I would participate in the program if I had something like that in my country and had toys that I wanted gone (broken, causing unpleasant reactions etc.). The alternatives to recycling are: the tip and hoarding (which is basically making a tip in your home).
It's not a toy exchange program - read the "How it works page", please less

I would say "heck yes!" to this kind of thing. Why not? Its thoroughly sterilized and god only knows what kind of things we already use on a day to day basis that has been "elsewhere" and we have no issues with using THOSE items right? Who's to say that those old recycled tires haven't rolled across crack pipes and animal feces and the like? But they are recycled, cleaned and sorted and now your kid plays with that basketball out back with his/her HANDS on it......yet we don't question THAT now do we?
Granted, that might be a bit far fetched, but who's to say that it hasn't/doesn't happen that way? Thing is, if its going to keep recyclable items out of landfills, we might as well contribute to something else rather than our own mountains of filth. People need to realize that one of these days, we're going to run out of places to dump our crap and eventually the smell will be overwhelming. Then what? You'll wish you had recycled a little more ~
