I doubt it, provided that the wood is properly finished. Maybe if you intentionally broke it...but I'd hope that sex toy manufacturers would anticipate any troubles such as these and design their products accordingly to keep consumers safe. That'd be one hell of a lawsuit.

Is it possible to get splinters from wooden sex toys?

Am I the only one who's never worried about this? Now, I have done some woodcrafting of my own, but even unfinished, once you've sanded something on a lathe, there's not a splinter to be seen. I have a little decorative wood doodad on my desk and it's as smooth as silk... and it was not finished. It was sanded and oiled a little bit to bring the gloss out. I wouldn't fear splinters from it, and all of the well known wood toy creators seal their toys extra well! Short of hurling them at the floor repeatedly or trying to sand the finish off, I'd be more concerned playing with glass.

I think they are completely safe, and hard wood are usually used for toys

This concern is the only reason I haven't gotten one yet. Might be ready to try now.

But cutting boards don't have a coating/sealant on them as wooden toys do.

My feeling has been that hot water might wreck wooden toys; similar to putting a wooden cutting board in a dishwasher which I did and destroyed it. less

I've soaked one of my wooden toys in a bleach water solution for a bit with no problems. I wouldn't leave it to soak overnight or for several hours, though, just to be safe.
I typically use warm to hot water with antibacterial soap to clean my wooden toys. The sealant makes them nonporous.
As far as wearing down the sealant/glaze, I don't see that happening unless you just toss the toy into a drawer with lots of rough objects to continuously rub against it. But you don't do that with your glass toys or your jelly toys, do you? So just take the normal care you would take with your other toys with your lovely wooden toy. Keep it in a toy pouch or in a sock where no hard, abrasive objects can rub against it. (I think you would pretty much have to actively sand it off, though, unless you are talking about a period of several decades of sliding around in a sandpaper-lined drawer . . .)
One thing is for sure: the sealant will certainly not rub off from thrusting against the delicate membranous tissues of the genitalia. I loved the "sandpaper vagina" comment!
