Don't know about ancient dildos, but stone ones today are made of smooth stone, so as not to scratch the user. Since I imagine they're heavy, you have to be little more careful - same as with glass and steel - but otherwise I think they'd be okay.

The first dildo? Oh yes, it was a long time ago! Excavations of many ancient civilizations have shown stone objects that were obviously sculptures of penises. Those who made the discoveries say that the sculptures were made for religious and fertility rituals.
Fast forward to Ancient Greece, and they were using phallic-objects made from wood and leather. A drop of olive oil functioned as their lubricant. Greeks are also the ones who came up with the idea of hysteria - the lack of sperm causing the "wandering uterus" in women. When Greek men went off to war, they often gave their wives sex toys to help prevent hysteria.
Fun fact: Italians gave us the word "diletto" which means "to delight" which is where the modern word "dildo" comes from!
These sex facts were found from Go Ask Alice!.
So, which one of the ancient-dildo materials do you like the most? less

Some Highly polished stone would be top on my list. Although highly polished wood is appealing. Leather might be nice as a prop but I would never use it.

I would love a stone dildo.

I can't really imagine it being incredibly comfortable but I love leather for just about anything else. I'm just not sure I would want it inside me. So I picked wood because the modern wood ones are soooooo pretty and I kind of want one.

Actually, despite the fact that it would be wildly expensive, I kind of now want a dildo made of diamond. If only to brag about it.

I've never heard of leather dildos, but I'm sure it would be an interesting experience.

Definitely stone, the smooth cool feel of it could probably produce luxurious waves of pleasure.
07/22/2012
Wood
07/22/2012
I'm not sure I want stone or wood in me, though even leather isn't a good material for a dildo I would prefer it over the other two.
07/22/2012
Interesting, I'd never heard any of that before.
07/22/2012
I would definitely say stone
