It's funny. When I worry about it, I get anxious and stalk the pages (like Silverdrop mentioned). And my number goes nowhere. But when I am not concerned about it... tada! I go up .1! I am going to equate the entire system to watching water boil.
How is it possible to have a 5.8 rating with only one review and 4 posts?
02/26/2012
hmm. I worked hard on my 5.8! I've only been a reviewer for a year or so, but maybe someone know... was it easier to move up in the ranks when it first started? maybe this one review was done ages ago and it was weighted higher than each one is now?

Not really sure. I wish that Eden would break down everyone's rating for them.

I was looking through the reviewer list today while trying to find a friend, and I noticed that there is one reviewer that has a 5.8 rating despite only reviewing one toy and posting on here 4 times. How exactly is this possible? I really don't care about my rating vs. the ratings of others, but this particular find struck me as odd given the amount of time and effort I've put into getting where I've gotten frankly. I'm not posting the name of the person here, because I really don't want people to gang up. I've read the rating FAQ a few times, and they make it seem like there is a really involved metric at work here.... certainly doesn't seem to be the case in the aforementioned case though.

Lots of forum posts and generally being active. I think it helps the ratings more

I started at 4.8 my friend started at 5 if you recieve alot of extremly useful votes it effects your score after that it's how many you have posted, how active you are on the site, how helpful etc. there are many factors because it can also depend on how many reviews you edit or students you have.

I'm guessing they have some extremely useful reviews.

I would assume they probably do a lot of rating of other people's reviews and such. I know my rating started out higher than it is now, and then dropped because I wasn't active for a long time. But the rating of other people's reviews seems like the most 'silent' way to raise your ranking.

I had a similar experience, starting at a 4.8 with my first review, and now it's taken a while to move up. I've been at a 5.3 for the past 4 reviews I've submitted. I suppose it has something to do with how much action their review is getting!

My sister just joined like a month ago and only has one review. And she's already at 5.2.

And I started at like 4.4 or something. I've been here since february and just recently got to my 6.1 rank. Actually, seemed like forever to even get 5.5.

I agree. Thinks are just a little bit wonky and probably aren't the most mathematically based. (Just because something is broken down into percentages doesn't mean it accurately reflect contributions to the community). That said, I don't feel I've been particularly robbed of a higher ranking so I'm just going to continue to trying to be active.

Eh, I think the ranking system might be a little broken. When my roommate joined, she had a higher ranking than I did, even though I had 13 reviews posted, all but 3 of which were rated "extremely useful" and I was extremely active in the forums/commenting on reviews/had quite a number of followers/etc. She posted one review that got a "useful" rating, and she was at 5.4, which was the same as my ranking after all that effort. I start out at 4.5 and my rank has gone up steadily by .1 for ever 2-3 reviews I write.
I've also noticed the inactive profiles with only a few reviews, a few comments, and a 5.8 ranking. The system is definitely broken. I wouldn't care, honestly, but I would like to be able to proofread, and be a mentor, since I think I could do a really good job, and those things depend on ranking. less

I've seen this happen before and sob hot, salty tears.

I see this happen! My rank hasn't gone up since my first review. Started out at 5.1, went down to 5.0...and went back up to 5.1. I've been there forever...;+; Trying to be as active as possible. In around 10 years I'll be at 5.2. My rank is really not that important, I don't think I'll ever see 6.0! I just like being in the forums and writing reviews.

I am in the same boat. I am a 5.0 and it's taking me forever to get to 5.1 so I can edit reviews.
