Hosting pictures for reviews

Contributor: Kindred Kindred
I know that EF has a Flickr group to host pictures for reviews. However I recently had a problem where for reasons unclear to me, Flickr deleted my account and pictures, thus breaking the links in my reviews. The reason given to me was basically an email quoting their policy that photos should not be copied from others. As far as I know, all of the pictures were ones I took myself just for the reviews. When I tried to inquire further, I basically got the same generic email stating their policy against copying other peoples material. Not a huge deal, except I no longer have one of the photos I took. I uploaded the photos I have onto Photobucket for now. Hopefully there will be no further issues.

Regardless, I thought there was some discussion recently about EF possibly hosting photos? I'm not sure if this was in reference to using Flickr or if the site itself would eventually host pictures. Perhaps EF might consider doing this since this could be an issue for reviews in the future, especially if the pictures are no longer available.

I've been hoping for this option, too. I'm unwilling to host pictures for EF on my own server, for privacy reasons, but also reluctant to pay for space elsewhere or to trust Photobucket to not randomly delete stuff, since reviews can't be edited after three weeks.

WTF, I can only think of one pic that you used (Lotus texture) that was not yours.
That really sucks.

It would be nice if Eden had someway to upload them to the site or something.

Ah I forgot about that one. Maybe that was the reason? I dunno, but it seems harsh to delete my account over that.

Agreed, I would think they would just delete that one.

I used Imageshack for my latest 3 reviews soon to be 4. Only thing that could get them deleted is 2 clothed girls kissing (which I would not understand). Hopefully they will remain

I think deleting an entire account for Kindred's or Viktor's reason is both stupid. Lost work and lost pictures. It's not right to not contact you about the issue first for such silly reasons.

Would it be possible that they took them off from being "offensive" to someone?

I am not sure how the policies work with that kind of stuff, but just a suggestion as to why they just quit your account like that. You'd think you would get a warning or something!

I don't think they were offensive, but that's also a biased opinion. All I had was a picture of the Curve and Acute dildos, a cross section view of a fleshlight, and a few pictures of the Beauty sleeve which honestly doesn't look offensive without knowing exactly what it is. Access to the images was also set to restricted.

I tell ya, it makes me mad. I still can't believe they failed to contact you at all. It does concern me about finding another site to use for my photos because if they did that to older photos, it would permanently mar my reviews I used them in. And that would piss me off.

That's exactly my concern. I was lucky, I found copies of the photos and I just started attaching them to my last 3 reviews, so I was able to edit them myself. What if this happens in the future? I can' promise I'm going to keep back ups of every photo I use in a review.

And then there's the issue, like ToyGeek said, if your review is too old to edit and there will be a broken link in it forever. Grrr to them!

Wow I never knew you couldn't edit a review after 3 weeks... Why is that?

I am in agreement with everyone, a picture of a fleshlight texture getting your account deleted is a little overboard, specially when you said you couldn't tell what it was without being told.

We can not edit a review after 3 weeks. However, I'm sure EF can if necessary.

I use TinyPic.com and I really hope they don't ever delete any of my photos that I've uploaded for reviews.

Regarding the Fleshlight photo or other similar type photos taken from a manufacturer website: Would it be considered a less egregious (and less obvious) infringement if you edited such photos by adding some text to it and then cropped them so that they do not look like the same picture?

The Fleshlight internal texture photos are the only photos I can think of that you would need to borrow a manufacturer photo for -- unless you are willing to cut your nice new sleeve in half lengthwise just to show off the texture! (Now that would be a dedicated reviewer!)

Hmmm, that is true- about the restricted access and what not. Have you tried to contact someone else since your last inquiry?

I agree that it is very strange and (in my opinion) not right for them to just cut your pictures off like that.

I emailed twice to try and get an explanation and each time I got a canned response quoting policy. It's not worth any more effort. I'll try Photobucket now and maybe back them up with Picassa.

Do any of you know how to get the resized pic to show up in the review? I have resized mine a billion times in photobucket and they still are showing up huge.

I used tinypic for a picture of the Passion Wave in my blog about a year ago, and they deleted it as porn. However, random junk I uploaded to tinypic years ago, which included adult language, is still there. Who knows.

You can force a resize on this end, using html, provided html is fully enabled in reviews. Just include width="xx" height="xx" in the image tag.

Ditto! . I managed to get two out of three pics resized but the last one is being stubborn so I'm just going to leave it for now. Thanks ToyGeek for the useful info

In Photobucket, if you mouse over the photo, edit options pop-up on top of the picture. One of these options is "Resize". Just make sure you have the viewed image at 100% so you know how big/small you want it.
