Face versus No Face

Contributor: PassionQT PassionQT
I'm considering show my face in my next video, but for the first few, I didn't want to, mostly because I wanted to practice and also because I was in my PJ's looking kind of rough.

I have to say I love edentube videos...it really depends on the face...I often skip reviews I want to see because I find the face unatractive Anyone else? I'm not sure why maybe I just don't like watching someone I think isn't pleasant to look at and talk about sex a turn off.

there were a few plesant faces on the ones who showed them..some reviews I just didn't like because the person was speaking so quietly and u had to turn up the volume really loud and still listen carefully so I don't watch those ones. I don't mind the no face videos..I do get curious to see the face if the person has a nice voice or body..but I also think maybe I dont want to see the face.

I have skipped video because the face of the person, but I only recall doing it once or twice.

The key to a good video review to me is having good sound. Being close to the mic and talking clearly makes me keep watching a video. I only last about 10 seconds if the volume is dim or super crappy quality.

I'm not watching their video to be attracted to them, so I don't care what the reviewer looks like. I'm interested in the toy, what the toy looks like, if it's bendable, how loud it is and their opinion of the toy.

Me too. I think that's the way it is for most, though obviously not all.

I know I'm an offender in the low volume department. My voice doesn't project at all. If there were a way I could amplify that I would.

You might have to turn the volume up, but in my videos you won't hear 'um' and I try not to dawdle - two things that will make me stop watching a video.

Eh, I'd rather see the product more than the person. Sometimes the face helps in showing, say, disappointment or excitement, but otherwise I have no preference.

I did a face one just to compare, but I didn't like it and never uploaded it. I honestly would just rather highlight the toy, but it comes down to whatever you are comfortable with. So long as the vid quality and the sound are good, I'll watch either way.

I know this thread is meant to be helpful but I'm feeling like it's degenerating a bit into pickiness and things that may be hurtful.

Let's try to remember that people put a lot out there to do the videos and not be discouraging, okay?

Thanks.

Yeah, face or no face, everyone deserves a pat on the back for making the effort. Making videos is hard, so I'm glad we are rewarded for them. I think I did about 50 takes, no kidding, on my first one. I've been working my way down to about 10- 15 takes until I get it right. I kept stumbling over my words or I forget what I want to say. Eventually, my husband said I sounded too rehearsed, so I'm trying to sound more personable, but I'm just a serious person, I can't help it! Sometimes I'll try to slip in a funny though if it applies.

I like faces, but see the need for privacy for many. Gary's videos are some of my favorites, though, and he hasn't shown a face (yet.) I think it's about the video itself and creative presentation, but I think having faces 'normalizes' sex toys in a way that's sex positive. Unfortunately, not all of society is as into that as we'd like them to be (yet.)

It doesn't matter to me. I understand why someone might not want to show their face. I work in a pretty conservative career (I'm a nurse) and I feel I do care for my privacy, as one never knows who watches these videos etc.

I know we all feel we can trust the regulars ON the site, but there are lurkers everywhere, and I was cyberstalked by several people, one of whom was a real over the top nutcase, when I was a SuperModerator on on other forum, the guy threatened to rape and kill me. Scary shit. He threatened other Mods on the site, even threatened to kill the Web Master, and I believe the police eventually got involved, but I don't know the outcome. I had never used a clear pic of myself, so I felt a little safer. But, still. You don't know who is out there.

I completely understand why someone would not put their face in a video. Whether it is for sex toys or children's books.

Gary, from your looks (big, scary looking, hairy dude) you have little to fear from rapists in the general community?

As women, rape is a fear we all grew up with and it is reawakened every time we have to walk to our cars in a deserted underground parking lot, go somewhere alone at night, or even post our faces on the net.

Mileage and all that.

In all honestly, Gary, I think you look like a really nice guy, but a bit intimidating. I'm 5 ft nothing and weigh about 120 lbs, and look almost child like. Big difference in the "Intimidation Factor" when it comes to a gang of boys in a deserted parking lot, etc.

Absolutely! I'm in awe of them for a lot of reasons. One, because I don't have Clue One on HOW to make a video for the net. My 10 year old knows more about it. And, it IS a huge effort and I admire the video reviewers immensely!

It doesn't bother me if a person chooses not to show their face in a video review, I'm not sure if I would want my face shown in a video either. I appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into creating a video review as well as the extra information that can be conveyed that can't be seen in photographs or words on the screen. If I can get my web cam working properly I hope to be able to start doing some but I don't think I will be sharing my face, at least not to begin with

It's easier to relate when you can see the expressions but since I'm shy, I can understand why some don't.

I don't have a preference on whether or not they show their faces. But I DO have a preference for the reviewer talking over a silent (or musical) video. If it's just a visual thing, it doesn't appeal NEAR as much for me and I usually won't even watch it till the end. And if they ARE talking and I just can't hear them, that's frustrating.

I agree that adding a face does add something to the video. Being able to better read someone's body language always communicates more and makes it more personal. Despite that, I'm too chicken to show my face in my own videos

+1. IMO the review is about the toy, not the person.

I am doing the same thing; my first review took a billion tries. I wish I could just chop them together- I will get going really good and do real good for a while, and then I will forget something lol. I'm still working on it though. It would help if my webcam didn't suck too- I have a hell of a time finding good lighting anywhere I go. But, just like the written reviews, I am sure they will get better

Whatever makes the reviewer most comfortable is fine with me.

I know I'd never show my face, or even make a video review, probably. I'm just too socially awkward and camera shy, even when sex is not involved.

It honestly does not make a difference to me either way whether a reviewer shows his or her face or not. I COMPLETELY understand their desire for privacy. I just want to say that I deeply appreciate any effort they make in showing me the toy so that I can have a better understanding of it and thus be able to make a better decision.

I must say that it was very disheartening to read disparaging remarks made about the looks of some of the video reviewers in this community. I just do not see how that was necessary to mention finding someone's FACE a turn off. It definitely was not very supportive or appreciative of their humanity -- let alone their efforts to give us more information on a product on which we may be considering spending our hard-earned money. Please realize that the video reviewers are not remote from this forum and that they are likely to read your remarks. Do you really want people to wonder whether you were referencing them and go away feeling crushed and terrible about themselves?

I'm not sure I really have a preference. Seeing people's faces is usually a given when they are in sales because they want the sale so they want to be as friendly and comforting as they can be with eyes and body language. But this is reviews not sales so the individual doing the review isn't necessary in the equation. The item and the capabilities of the item are the important factor and the reviewer themself could become a distraction if it isn't done well. So as long as the review is a well thought out and accomplished then if it has a persons face doesn't matter. I don't know I'm not into the stalkish thought patterns but faces doesn't change anything for me. I'd say just do what is comfortable for you.

I personally prefer a face. It makes me as a newbie to this site feel a little more welcome and allows me to know that being completely open about who I am and why I`m here is totally acceptable!
