Are you now, or have you ever been an Eden editor?

Contributor: Pixel Pixel
The last time I did editing for Eden was a year and a half ago. I've applied several times since then, but haven't been slipped into the rotation again. I keep applying, though, and hopefully I'll get back into an upcoming rotation.

I'm on the current rotation and it's my first time. I'm really enjoying it - at least I was until the 2000 point thing. I'm still enjoying it, but for every interesting, thoughtful and well-written review there seem to be ten that are just thrown together by a room full of monkeys with a typewriter. Some are so generic that I have to check again to see which product they're reviewing, while others are written with the kind of grammar that would make my dog laugh.

I've even edited for one reviewer - who shall remain nameless - who consistently types 'six' for 'sex'. How on earth do you spell 'sex' wrong, especially on a sex site?!

It's 'defiantly' a challenge sometimes (no, that wasn't a typo), but I'd apply again.

Oh and I'll add this: Thanks to having a go at editing, all past and future editors have my full respect!

I was in the rotation a while back, and I have put my name in for another rotation when it comes back around.

I first applied for this current rotation, and the proofreading test went to my spam folder (damn Gmail!), so I didn't find and return it in time. Sammi asked me to reapply for the upcoming rotation, and I did, and returned the test right away--and then everyone got canned. I believe I would have been chosen, because I'm a damn good proofreader, but now I may never know.

Regarding the editor ratings: When I was newer, I would strictly rate editing according to the guidelines spelled out in the information pop-up. However, I've learned a lot more about the process, and about how a lot of these reviews look when they're first submitted, and I'm a bit more lenient now, and try to go with my own definition of the terms. I agree that four or five rating options would be better than just three! Perhaps: Perfect; Excellent; Good; Acceptable; Poor.

I haven't applied for an editor position yet, but I'll definitely consider doing so in the future. As a veteran academic, obsessive and nitpicky editing is right up my alley.

Editing is my day job, I wouldn't do it when I come home.

Another issue to keep in mind when voting is that the reviewer can go back into the review and change anything they want to, after the editor is finished, and the editor won't know it happened. So if you see something that seems much worse than an editor's usual work, this could be the reason.

Yep, I've noticed that before! Saw a review edited by someone I knew was a good editor, and the last paragraph was chock-full of crazy errors. I emailed her, and sure enough... LOL.

Excellent point! I never knew this could happen until until this week! I like FieryRed's idea of messaging the editor to see if that is the case. It's seems a shame to have your name associated with a review & then not know if it gets changed for the worse!

I've applied two or three times in the past but have been declined. It's something I really want to do, seeing how I am a housewife and have a lot of free time on my hands, not to mention I love writing, so I've always been good at proofreading and such.

I am not a native speaker, so I would never be able to do the editing. I am surprised to hear that editors have to deal with so many spelling mistakes. Doesn't everyone has a spell-check?
