I only had one so far. I took it, figured what the hell. I would at least try!
I decline a descriptive assignment or push assignment when...
10/01/2011
I'll decline if it seems like something that could do me or my lover harm (low safety material/ingredients/e tc.), if it isn't suited to my gender/body type and my lover isn't interested in trying, if I'm ethically opposed to the materials, or if I don't think I'll be able to complete the review in a timely fashion.

Oh man, am I happy to see this thread. I just got my first push assignment a few days ago, and I was super excited and thankful. However, I realized the material was something that I was allergic to (my fault - I forgot to change my product material preferences), and I didn't think I'd be able to give it enough use to write a fair review. I have super sensitive skin and I knew I'd have a reaction to it. It took me some time to think it over, but I decided to decline it. I thought someone who would be able to use and enjoy it should have the opportunity to review it. I did change my product material preferences to reflect my needs, but I feel really bad about it! I love EF and am so thankful for the opportunity to review here.
The only reasons I would decline an assignment is if I would be unable to use it due to the material or size.

I haven't been offered any push assignments yet, but I'd try to be open minded about trying new types of toys.
My problem is smells. I had a bad reaction to Sil-a-Gel - the smell actually gave me a migraine. And I ordered a massage candle that I couldn't even light because I was afraid of the smell filling the house. If that had been a review item, I couldn't have reviewed it. Since I live in the UK, just sending it back isn't a viable option. So I've decided not to order, or accept for reviews, anything that's likely to have a odor, whether good or bad. So no jelly dildos, no bath or body products, no flavored lubes, etc.
The other thing is couples items, since my bf is long distance. I can only accept them if I know he'll be around in the right time frame. But we're hoping to move in together soon - maybe this summer - and I think I could convince him to do reviews for men's toys when that happens.

I've now learned what dimensions my body can handle....the hard way. I was sent something recently that was just too big for my body to enjoy comfortably. It now has to sit in my closet 'til I can either re-home it or throw it away.
12/26/2011
I recently accepted a push assignment for a Sil-A-Gel toy. It didn't kill me, but it sure did go in the trash when I was finished with the assignment. LOL
12/26/2011
I have not been sent one yet, but for me, turning down a review would mostly depend on the materials or whether it would be an item I could use.
12/26/2011
I will generally only turn down assignments if it's something I simply can't use. If it's something I can't handle size wise, material wise, or preference wise. Examples would be that I have bad reactions to jelly and latex. I actually found out about the latex reaction through an assignment. Good to know, not so fun to find out. I don't use anal toys, so I wouldn't accept one of those. My husband uses them, so if I could convince him to give me detailed enough information to review on, it may still be an option. He is getting more involved these days. I generally won't accept anything that has what I would consider "too much" texture since I have some sensitivity to that.
If it's something I've never used before but could use it based on size and material or ingredients, I'll give it a go. So long as I have the ability, I'll try just about anything. I just want to make sure that it's something I could at least give a fair opinion to. There's no way I could write a fair review of a jelly toy because all I'll be able to say is "made me burn like crazy." Same for lubes with parabens or glycerin. "Gave me a yeast infection and made me burn" won't be all that useful to someone without the same sensitivities as me. Could be a great product if you're not very sensitive. Since I can't properly judge that, I'll avoid.

Unless I have allergy concerns (and I'm talking, Anaphylactic shock kind of allergy!) or am morally opposed (such as toys with real fur) I will NOT turn down an assignment unless I know I won't be able to use it (too large for my body) but I am lucky in the sense that I have a male AND female partner to try toys out with and BOTH are bisexual and love to explore. SO, I don't have to turn much down and haven't yet!

I decline anything I have no interest in.

Sil-A-Gel is the worst material EVER. Can you imagine being one of the people who works in the dildo factory for Doc Johnson?!

No! That was one of the hardest reviews I've ever done... I had to try and stay objective even though I hated the toy. I put off finishing that review as long as I could because I didn't want that toy touching me. LOL I can't imagine working in that factory!

Awhile ago, I turned down assignments by certain manufactures because of prior negative experiences with their toys. I just didn't want to take the time to use them and probably be negative. Yea, this was probably a rush to judgement but that is how I felt....
I noted my preferences on materials and have not been offered toys that are outside of my present material comfort zone.

I have my preferences marked and have only had to decline one assignment and it was a push assignment not a DR.

I have not yet been lucky enough to get any assignments that I did not request, but the only things I would turn down are packers or harnesses because I would have no use for them or ability to test them. Other than that, I will try anything once (and probably enjoy it )

Lots of great information here!
07/28/2012
If I can't use it or don't want to, then I'll decline. Almost every other time I will accept.
07/28/2012
I'll usually review it unless it's too big, made for male bodies, heavier BDSM gear, or anal toys.
08/07/2012
I will only decline them if I happen to be allergic to the material, have too many reviews to write as it is or if I'm too busy with life to write a review on the item. Other than that I'm pretty open to trying new things and writing great reviews when I can.

I've declined things that require a penis, as I don't have one, and things that require a partner, as I don't have one of those either. I obviously wouldn't be able to do a fair review, so it would be pointless. I've also had descriptive review opportunities expire while I was unavailable due to illness/computer issues/etc.
However, I would never turn down a review just because the product looked cheap or uninteresting, because the whole point of reviewing is to find out what's worth it for potential buyers, and if that could be judged accurately by a quick glance at the product page, what would EF need with reviewers? So unless it's a cock ring made of whalebone and lined in the fur of a seeing eye dog, I'm probably going to click accept.

really great thread - lots of good info!!

I found that when I accepted an assignment for something I would have never ordered that I really liked it, except for the Hung of course that that turned out to be really fun to play with!!

I decline assignments all of the time because I keep getting sent assignments for anal play toys and I don't for personal reasons that I will not discuss on here partake in ANY anal play, real or otherwise. I have made several statements on the preferences page to not send me any assignments related to anal devices and I keep receiving them. Just today I got another one so I sent in one of those help tick things asking to be removed from whatever list they pull from for anal toys as it is a waste of everyones time to keep assigning them to me.

Simple enough: when do you guys decline push assignments or descriptive assignments - if at all? I try to be open minded, but most of the push assignments I receive are DRs. For this reason I'm somewhat discerning and only accept things that don't look as though they would bother me. I want to be able to give a fair review, and after 2+ years of reviewing I have a decent sense of which products I'll have difficulty being objective with. Example:
I was sent the Ogee vibe a while ago for a DR and declined it. The bumps on it looked like they'd be uncomfortable for me as I don't like a ton of texture. Otherwise, I try to be open minded provided the toys don't contain phthalates and won't be TOO much of a pain in the ass to keep clean. Really my only reasons for declining are that a toy is made from low safety materials, is super high maintenance or just looks like something I'd hate/have no use for. There are other times I do decline just because I'm busy (with other reviews or life in general), but this is less often.
How about you? I tried to include a lot of options, but add your own in the comments if you like. Complete this sentence: I decline a push or descriptive review assignment...
How about you? Anonymous voting so you won't be judged for your reasoning! less
