I say in a relationship, but that could just be since that's what I know. It's been a damn long time since I wasn't in a relationship.

I don't like being alone. I'm the kind of person who takes care of everyone but has no one to take care of them, so I didn't deal with that too well before I got my boyfriend.

it seems my answer has become clearer since my last response in april, when i was really struggling with this issue.

i enjoy being single. never thought i would. do i prefer over a relationship? well that would depend on the relationship. alone is better than an unhealthy relationship. if i met someone and it grew into a relationship that was healthy enough that i could still hold onto the parts of myself that i have refound and have learned to enjoy, then great. if not, i'll stick with single.

Neither. I sometimes refer to my guy on here as my boyfriend, my SO, or my lover, and really, he's my lover. The terms just started to become interchangeable since I know none of you personally, so it doesn't have to be confusing. I prefer what I have now, which is not really single, and not really in a relationship. He's someone I care about and I tend to be monogamous even in this type of relationship because it's absolutely draining for me to focus my energies in an intimate manner with more than one person. But there's more freedom and independence with a lover, and less loneliness and longing when single. It's a good balance.

I've been in one too many committed, draining, and even traumatizing serious relationships, which started happening when I was 15. It takes a lot out of you, especially when they continue to fail. Maybe it will change one day, maybe it won't. Right now, somewhere between single and a relationship is what I want.

There are pros and cons to both. Find a happy medium and you're in heaven!
