I just want to know before I get to that point...I'm only at one right now...
How many cats does it take before you become a crazy cat lady?

I checked the wrong box. I meant to say 4. In my experience. But I suppose three works too... A family member has two indoor cats and two outdoor cats, it's honestly as many as I could possibly imagine, and even in practice, it still seems like a lot.
That said, I'm a dog person at heart and in body, seeing as I'm horribly allergic to cats. So. In truth, having a cat at all ends up seeming like a pathological threat to my wellbeing lol.

Cats are just the sweetest things! I completely understand wanting a few (dozen)

My best friend and her husband have a Four-Cat-at-a-Time rule ... there will be only four cats in the house to keep the place looking occupied. "Any more and we'll end up being the crazy cat people." She's very good about keeping up after them, so the house doesn't look or smell awful ... it's just a treat to look around her Victorian house and see a cat face peering out from behind a lace curtain or from the center of a well-made bed. And there will always be at least one that will snuggle up with a guest at night.
Myself, I can't really handle more than two at a time.

I have 5 we had 6. Our neighbor is a crazy cat lady now she feeds all the strays and takes them to the vet. She has done this with over 40 cats. She has 10 that live in the house. She is cat crazy.

I have 2 right now. Debated on getting a 3rd...but decided it was too much for me. I think its up to your personality. I wouldn't suggest over 4 at a time though.

A friend of mine has six cats and a dog and she's pushing it. Anything more than five is too much for me personally. I don't even have one but I would love one. My boyfriend is allergic. I think I'm just going to bring a kitty home along with some zyrtec and tell him to suck it up though...j/k

We had 8 at one time when our cat had kittens. Only kept the mom though. Now that I'm on my own I have two cats. I'd like to get a third one, but I also have a dog, so I think this is enough animals for now.

I love the question. I think 3 is a lot to take care of.

I... Don't even wanna mention how many my mum has in the house now that I've read the answers! In our own house when we get it we'll never have more than 2 or 3!

Lol my family calls me a crazy cat lady. My grandmother has around 15! I only have 3, but the most I've had was 8. I LOVE CATS!

I have two now (spayed and neutered) but the most I ever had was when I was a kid we had 22. It started with 4 cats and all four had kittens. They were a handful!
I'm pretty sure 5 isn't really a crazy cat woman but 22 definitely would be lol

I'd say the double digits.
We have 7.
We have 7.

At heart, I've always been one! But you can never have enough kitties! NEVER! Unless you are a cat hoarder...which moves you from "crazy cat lady" to "crazy".
Someone I used to be friends with had 32 cats between her and her husband, but they made it work! They constantly fostered cats and they were always well cared for and healthy and clean. But that was a lot of cats!!!

We need an other option. I was thinking about 20 or 30. My neighbor has about 8 or 10 cats, but some stay upstairs, some stay downstairs and some prefer to be outside all the time. It's not like her house or yard ever is overrun with cats.
Several of them like to hang out in my dog-free yard. My inner crazy cat lady welcomes them.

More than 5, but they must each have carefully chosen names and intricate back-stories.

I've got one little crazy bobtail and she drives me nuts, but in a good way!
10/27/2011
I'd say 5+ considers you a crazy cat lady unless you're fostering kittens or have a ton of rescues that you couldn't say no to.
10/27/2011
It has to be four because we have three and hubby has drawn the line.

We have two (which often drive us crazy), but I think any more than 4 is where you start becoming the "crazy cat lady." Of course I have a good handful of crazy cat ladies who are generally really awesome people, but yeah if you have 7+ cats they are going to run your life!
10/29/2011
We'll feed strays that wander up (we live in the country), but we don't claim to have any. We've had some stray tom cats in the past, but they usually end up wandering off.
10/29/2011
i feel like more than 3 would seem a little much. but that's just me. my family usually has 2 at a time. if one dies, it's not too long before we get a new one.
11/03/2011
We have 7 and we only don't have more because we can't afford it at the moment. I think that we've reached that "crazy cat people" stage lol
11/04/2011
I think if you have more than you can properly care for, then you're a crazy cat lady. But if your home is clean, the cats' things (dishes/litter boxes/etc) are all clean and you can afford the vet bills and such - then go for it!

I think it's awesome how many people are involved in this poll! :-D I'm glad to know that I've got a while before I'm THAT lady. Personally, I only have one...but my roommates have 3, so together, our 4 make life interesting.

It all depends! I'd say 5 might be too many if you live in a tiny apartment in the city, but my parents, for example, have a big house and all their kids have moved out. So they have five cats. Totally reasonable! And adorable!
