How many cats does it take before you become a crazy cat lady?

Contributor: Jobthingy Jobthingy
Depends on whether you can look after them. I know one girl that has 4 and her house stinks to high heaven. The litter is not taken care of daily, they pee all over the house because of it, the vacuuming is not done to pick up the hair. It is an allergy sufferers nightmare.

But I know another friend with 5 and you cant even tell they are there unless one comes up to give you a snuggle.

The answer to that question is "One more than we have now"

More than 3 - simply because I have 3! Lol. We were going to stick with 2, but a poor, starved kitty with bad nerve damage showed up one day, and when we decided to take him in to find him help we couldn't send him to the shelter after he started healing. He will never fully recover and we didn't want him to be put down. So now we have a trio, but we love them. Though I do look a bit like a crazy cat lady when they all come running at once... Lol. The husband's aunt, however, has 5 cats, BUT they have the room for them. They have a HUGE house. 2 stay upstairs and 3 stay downstairs and come and go from outside. I wouldn't have a problem with that at all

I think eight is iffy, but ten is a certainty.

I completely agree!

If your the typical suburban house and you have more then 3 your over the top. I can see 3... had two and that was ok and enough for me. If I see someone with 6 I know they are both insane and in need of a lot of kitty litter. If you have a huge ranch or farm then by all means get some mobile rat trap dumpster divers and drop them off around your home and barn.

I think it makes it worse if you live in a small apt, but from a guy's point of view more than 3 cats for a single girl is crazy.

I'm unfortunately down to zero cats right now. My good friend is taking care of my baby for me because I'm moving into an apartment that doesn't allow pets

I think it depends more on the way you start acting about/with the cats...not the number. If you are obsessed with the cat(s) you my friend are already the crazy cat lady/man.

I'm going to say ^ this. Can't really talk... we have 10. Nine of them live in the basement most of the time, and that's where all their food dishes and all but 2 litter boxes are. We've got one covered box on the first floor, and one covered box in my son's room because his kitten sleeps in there with him. Most people are shocked when I tell them how many we have, even when they're standing in my house. I keep it super clean, and since they only come up during the day when someone's here, they aren't given many opportunities to make messes elsewhere.

My mother is another story... she fosters cats, but no one ever adopts adult kitties. She has 25 in the house and 3 she feeds outdoors. THAT is crazy cat lady to me.

HAHA! I often think about this question too! This post made me laugh! I have two cats and everyone calls me the crazy cat lady already, lol. Anyway, I don't know I don't think there's anything wrong with having a close relationship with your cats. But I think having over 5 is pushing it.

You can have the crazy cat lady mentality with any number, lol! I look forward to my advanced years when I can own several and be a "crazy cat person."

I would say five or more. Having one is perfectly fine, as well as two or three (hey, they need friends too!).

I don't really know. I'd say three or more. Although I have a friend, a dear sweet friend, who is a crazy cat lady and she only has two cats. She's a hoarder, too. I love he dearly, but haven't been to her house in over 15 years. It was scary 15 years ago (and I'm no fantastic housekeeper myself) and I've heard reports over the years that it's a lot scarier now.

I can't even go into her house, as my cat allergies bother me if I even hug her (which is sad, because I love her as a friend very much) and entering her house years ago would make me ill for days. Cat fur and.... stuff all over.

I think if one can keep the cats clean, make sure the litter box is cleaned every day and take care of the hair and whatever that.... dirty stuff that gets all over everything when you have a cat, you'll be OK. But, with more than 2 or 3 cats, I don't know how that is possible.

Enough to get your ass on Animal Hoarders. I love animals but my allergies limit the number I have. When you can no longer care for your animals in the way they deserve and their health/welfare is in question then you have TOO many. Don't take on more than you can care for PROPERLY.

I love cats and most other furry creatures (I love my reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish too!) so I wouldn't mind owning a number that someone considered me a 'crazy cat lady' I only have 3 at home and one with my fiance but we have other pets as well.

Four or five+ how do you care for that many?

Cats take care of themselves, so who cares. Just as long as you can feed them and make sure you clean the litter box daily, that's all that matters. Well that, and hopefully your next relationship partner doesn't own a cat eating pit bull, or some other cat hungry beast.

More then five I would say... especially if you have kids... it also depends on how you act and how important they are to you verses other things, such as people.
