I would like to think they (being in one now), but I'm not so sure.

Long distance relationships. Do they work?
04/16/2013
I've been with my boyfriend for a little over five years now. The last two have been long distance. And there were periods of separation before that. 3 months here. 6 months there. It's worked but it's been hard and I'm really sick of it. It'll finally be over in 5 weeks.

They can work, I could not do it, except for a little while, but you have to be really committed!

I personally don't think they work, but that's just been my experience and I've met very few people who survived extended periods of separation like that. One of the key things in a relationship is physical touch and being able to read each other's body language during important discussions and that kind of thing. It's hard to communicate fully through messaging or cam sessions. I think people are in a different place when they turn on their cameras and start chatting...prepared isn't the right word, nor is staged but it's just a different kind of focus than being blindsided by everyday life in a realtime manner. Does that make sense? less

They can work! It depends on the couple and the amount of work you're willing to put up with it, but they definitely can!

I think they can work but it definitely depends on the people involved.

I can vouch from personal experience that they can work uwu
But yeah, it depends on the people involved. I'm a very physical person who loves touch in general, so it can definitely be hard! But we see each other a few times a year and after 2 years we're making plans to finally move in together. Having goals (visits, etc) to look forward to helps a lot.

my aunt stayed married to her husband for 20 years faithfully and they lived nine hours apart, she worked here at the house and he was a truckdriver and tended their farm 9 hrs away. They were happily married til the day he died (they lived together for the first time when he was sick towards the end)

I'm in one right now. It's been kind of a messed up situation, but I care about her and want to make it work.
Obviously it depends greatly on the situation. Just curious how others feel.

I'm currently in one and it has been working for the past 3 years, obviously there are problems and LD makes it harder to get past the problems but if it's a good relationship it's all worth it

They can totally work.
But it always depends on the people.

Tried that and it didn't work for me. Doesn't mean it won't work for some people tho'
