I can tell you, I have only been given flowers 3 times in my life. I usually dont care, but you know sometimes, I like it. I always tell my husband that I wouldnt mind getting them. He thinks its silly and rather shower me with other gifts.
Ever Gave/Received Flowers Within a Relationship? *Good One*
04/10/2011
I give flowers and enjoy it and I've also received them and enjoy it (maybe a little less, kind of like Christmas as an adult).
The novelty of receiving them wore off when I worked as a cashier at a grocer as a teen. Creepy older dudes would buy the flowers THERE at the store and give them to my checkout lane. I mean, I was YOUNG.
Don't like flowers on first dates unless it is humourous (i.e., previously we discussed it was gross to get roses on the first couple dates, making it amusing if I still get them). Don't like random admirers giving me flowers.
I, however, have disobeyed my rule and given flowers to pretty boys and girls whenever the whim took me. I'm creepy as hell, but it works sometimes.
Oh, and I always bring a few roses and such to restaurants on Valentine's Day or other holidays. The people working really appreciate it.
I'm old-fashioned. I give and receive flowers as apologies.
I would like to say, however, if given the chance, I prefer more tangible (edible! sparkly!) gifts. I don't really like how I feel the need to be careful about chemicals, buy organic, buy ethically (it's another sad industry). Picking them is nice, though, and it's that time of year!!
Best gift ever: wine with a beautiful bottle and some flowers. Drink wine, then use bottle as a vase. I'm easily won over.

I have only received!

I actually don't think I've ever given flowers except to my mother. I have recieved them though! I do care because it made me feel so special. It's been a while since he's done it, but he randomly will have flowers sitting in the seat of my car and he'll come up with this off-the-wall plan to get away and get the flowers, get them in car, without me knowing. Each time, I've never suspected it! It was always such a lovely surprise to open my door and see flowers. It was really sweet. That always makes me smile. He's surprised me with flowers on other occasions too. Once he got me the most gorgeous purple orchid (my fav!) Unfortunately, I killed it.
I wouldn't think much of it if he never got me flowers again, but those are some amazing memories, mostly because of how unique he made them and how he'd go far out of his way to make it a surprise.

i dated a guy a few years ago who surprised me w/ flowers as a thank you for spending an entire sunday baking stuff for HIS tkd club's bake sale. i love getting flowers, but the guy i date now refuses to buy me any (even a $5 bouquet from walmart). im not picky & would love even a $3 flower from walmart. he doesn't have to spend a lot. his reasoning is that he doesn't want to spend any money on something that will die & would rather do something like take me out to dinner or pay for a movie. while this is nice, too, i would sometimes prefer to get flowers. i also would never accept flowers for an apology. then i feel like someone is trying to buy the apology instead of sitting down & talking so it doesn't become a repeated problem & u both understand what the issue was & move on. i also hate valentine's day. i don't want flowers b/c it's a holiday, i want them b/c u thought of me some random day of the yr... or my birthday.

My poll is about giving and receiving flowers while dating or during a relationship. I've never had any and I am starting to wonder if there is a point where it has become old-fashioned or even lame???
So my first question is: Have you ever given or received flowers? And do you care?
The other question is: What is your age group?
And do you have any opinion or stories to share about your experience? less

I have been given flowers alot in the relatioship im in now and they are always surprises all except one time and he picks out my favorites but this is the first relationship I have ever got flowers in...never gave them though

I have received flowers but they don't do a lot for me - they die

I have not given or received since I'm in a distanced relationship at the moment, but I plan to give my mate flowers when I see them in a month ^^

I don't really care about getting flowers, in fact I'd rather not get them. Back in high school I got them for every school dance because my mother pestered my boyfriend at the time. I didn't even want the and he had to shell out ~$50 every dance for a dozen roses on top of a corsage, dinner, dance tickets, etc.
As a joke he gave me some flowers (leftovers his mother had) and stuffed RAM sticks into the bouquet! Best gift ever!

I got flowers several times when we first started dating. And I loved them.

I have both given and received flowers. I think it's a very nice thing to have done for you or to do for others.
09/02/2011
I've gotten them a lot and the new guy...hell he's only been around three weeks and I'm on bouquet number two. There are good old fashioned guys out there, but there's also the men who look at it as a waste of money....so I kinda look at them as cheap! lol
09/02/2011
I've given them before, but I could care less if someone gave them to me.
09/02/2011
In other relationships I have received flowers...it's a nice way of saying "hey, I was thinking of you and saw these". It gives me something to look at when they aren't around and smile because I know they thought of me at some point.
But, I haven't gotten any flowers in over 8 years now...no matter how many hints I drop!

When my GF goes of town I've always had flowers in the house when she's gotten back. Last time, I picked up three phalaenopsis orchid plants. I really like them and they're still in bloom too.

My first serious relationship was long distance. I had saved up to go visit him (I was 16 and it was my first plane ride), and he met me at the airport with a huge bouquet of yellow roses, which are my third favorite flower (and it was the wrong season for sunflowers, and most florists don't sell foxglove). It was a really sweet gesture, and made me feel very loved.
The only other person to ever give me flowers was my sister, who sent a bouquet after I had surgery. My then-boyfriend (now ex-husband) didn't even call :\

never got flowers until I met the "Love of My Life".

I LOVE getting flowers. I don't get them nearly as often as I'd like.

When we were dating he would bring me flowers all the time...at least every week. It could be a single bud plucked from the side of the road or something store bought. Here we are 33 married years later (dated for FIVE first) and he STILL brings me flowers at least weekly. Some are exotic, or incredible arrangements, others are just a little hand held bouquet from the grocery store check out lane. It is ALL good. He loves me.

I've given flowers to girlfriends. I had to have hand surgery once and had gotten flowers then, but that's the only time I've gotten them.

I've never received a full bouquet that I can remember, but in high school my boyfriend gave me a few flowers once in a while, it was very sweet! I haven't received any since my senior prom. Really, he loved flowers far more than I, so I would pick him up some pretty flowers or bulbs every now and again, but as we were in school I worried that they'd get damaged before he got them home.
Honestly, for the most part I'd rather receive herbs in planter boxes or small pots! I can't keep cut flowers alive for more than 48 hours despite my best efforts, but herbs flourish in my garden and windows. I definitely wouldn't turn down flowers, though I would prefer them uncut so they could be replanted/re-potted!

Both given and recieved, and I like them a lot. I wish I could maintain flowering plants, but I dry my flowers and keep them around for a while-- very enjoyable.

I've received them and it's a nice thought. I prefer to get books rather than bouquets though.
