She's choosing to interact with the media, and thus loses all rights as a human being so that she is no longer a person but instead an "OctoMom"? Give me a break. I don't need a lecture on "how the media is." I know this shit happens. I really would rather not get into it, but I believe the media treats women with much less respect than it treats men (on the whole), and detracts respect as it sees fit when the person in question is unmarried, not white, etc.

Unfortunately, the media, the public and individuals will laugh at whatever they can. She is choosing to interact with the media. That makes her automatically subject to everything that they can do to prolong the story. Nice or not. That's there job. Politicians are subject to the same rules, and often get about the same amount of respect.
As for what people laugh at... Let them laugh. Life is hard enough not to laugh at whatever we might find either amusing or beautiful for a moment. (And your own avatar name means a "overflow of tears.") None of us would be laughing at her face, and many would actually be trying to help. I looked at those pictures of those babies, and felt terrible. They aren't vibrant healthy newborns. less

I'm not sure why you'd assume that I don't know the meaning of my own pen name, but since you did -- epiphora is also a literary term used to describe the repetition of the ends of two or more successive sentences, verses, lines, etc. I chose it for that definition.
