Should women be able to walk around topless in the USA?

I second that

But the thing is, either everyone should, or no one should. Men can't go topless at the mall because shirt and shoes are required. Men can go topless at the beach or a backyard barbecue but women can't.

There's a double ... more
I agree with this. The discrimination against women is obvious, and I think we need to learn to separate 'nude' from 'sexy' - they aren't the same thing.

Exactly. I don't want my 6 year old son seeing boobs everywhere. I think that would be too much...Just like asking if men can walk around without pants I think. If we can show a body part that excites, then they would ask to as well.

Do it in the comforts of your own home, or in a community where it is welcomed (nudist camp/colony).

There is definitely a time and place for being topless. But the US needs to stop being a bunch of prudes towards this practice.

I think women should be allowed to be topless anywhere that men are. I don't think being on a woman makes nipples inherently offensive like the majority of society seems to. It's a bizarre idea.

It should be the womans choice.

The diff treatment of male/female nipples is bizarre (at least in the US). Saw a doc on TLC about a man taking on gender reassignment: all pre-op video was presented with any torso shots run clear, any shots of those exact same nipples post-op were blurred. WtF...

I voted yes, although I suppose beaches would be a tricky area.

I'll admit I've often had the feeling that it's just not fair, when he's too warm he can strip his upper half right down to skin, but I have to at least have a bikini top on. When I'm too warm I don't want anything on my skin at all.

That being said, I can see why people feel women should keep them covered. A woman's chest is much more intimate and sexual than a man's. His breasts don't feed his young and they never will, they probably don't give him nearly as much sexual pleasure (though some men's nipples are more sensitive than others), and they are definitely not looked at as something a cock could go in between.

So too do I feel an intense sense of embarrassment or even downright shame if my cleavage is too deep, or if I raise my arms and my shirt lifts to expose the underside of my breasts. Sadly I feel that until the sexual weight is removed from women's breasts, we should probably keep them covered, at least in public scenarios.

I think women should be able to go topless anywhere men can go topless, but with that said, I don't think it's practical. It would take decades for that to not result in crazy amounts of sexual harassment and abuse.

absolutely yes. breasts aren't always sexual, and unless we are using them for PDAs, e should definitely be able o free them!!! why can men, but we can't? I CALL BS!

Canada has that freedom, and they're doing just fine. Besides its allot warmer in some places in the US, then it is in Canada.
There's also the women who on occasion like to wear just a bra.

Honestly, I get really cold and I need the support of a bra, but if another woman wants to do it, that's her business. I think only brief exposure should be allowed in some places (e.g. Alaska) due to the obvious danger, but if you live in Hawaii or Florida and don't have gravity-related discomfort, then why not?

Women have to breast-feed their babies. Many, many public spaces in Japan have a nursing room set aside where women can breast-feed their babies without worrying about harassment or pervy onlookers.

Exactly!! I agree with everything you said there.

I mean it might seem mean..but I really do not want to see some old lady with boobs sagging walking around topless.

I definitely see your point; it's better than the US's current system because it is fair. However, my father started wearing shirts to the beach because he was embarrassed about his body hair and weight, and he got heatstroke. I'd much rather look at gross, hairy, fat, bony, scarred, whatever bodies than have people suffer from heatstroke, although it's probably only an issue in certain climates.

In the US women hide behind the law. They want the 'right' but don't have either the desire or courage to do it - interesting that having the right is more ... more
Because even without the law, society still discourages it. Most of us go to school and/or have jobs, and it would not be socially acceptable to go to those places with your boobs hanging out.

It really is ridiculous that we can put extreme violence and pain on TV via news, shows, video games- but not a nipple. *gasp*
I would much rather my children see a boob then a head shot but that's just me.
Sadly, that's not how things are in this silly country. We bathe in violence rather then beauty. I'm all for the naked body, but sadly a lot of people aren't and it makes them uncomfortable. That being said, topless woman rejoice!

I dont see why not, it is hot and a lot of people would enjoy it more then others hating it.

For one, men and babies do not have breasts like women. I say no they should be kept covered because think about what that would lead to. There'd be sexual harrasment charges all over & I actually joined a petition against this entire thing. I feel like private parts should be kept well, PRIVATE. It should be something special/intimate that only your partner sees. For me, my issue with it is respect. I respect my own self far too much to expose my parts that are special and that's part of what makes it special. I also respect my partner enough not to go off letting every tom dick and harry stare at my private areas. It's wrong. Women would Really be seen as objects if we didn't have to cover them. Hell, some women can manage to get their nipple and all to show even in clothes! I think there's a time and place for everything. Walking around wal mart with my tits out is not where I want to run into my grandparents. There's also a time and place where cleavage and panty shots are totally unnecessary.

I don't think it should be a legal issue, more of a personal preference vs society issue. There are many people I would not like to see running around topless, that doesn't mean they should go to jail if they do.

If they choose to, anyone, male or female, should be allowed to go topless.

Just because you might not want to see it, shouldn't make it unlawful.
If you don't want to see ugly breasts, or beer belly, don't look.
