Do you think we will have a queer president within the next 50 years?

Probably not. It'll probably be about 50-70 years after we have a woman president and thanks to Palin and Bachmann thats AT LEAST 20-30 years off.

Here here.

Or stop coming up with their own conclusions with no real evidence. Many adult women live together and are not lesbians, why arent men allowed the same desire?

Hopefully, though the thing I'd rather see is us being as the point where nobody would think it was worth noting that the president was queer.

hm. only if that person were religious. because we know how much the US mistrusts atheists, and an athestic, queer president would be too much for the small-minded citizens of america!

An interesting point, but on the flip side a queer, religious person might attract just as much flame for their being a "blasphemy," since some deeply religious people do not think it's possible for a gay person to believe in god. Kind of a lose/lose scenario.

They're perfectly allowed, just when they write each other love letters, it becomes somewhat suspect that they are more than friends. Plenty of men have lived together completely in completely platonic relationships, but I don't think Buchanan and King did.

I think it would be awesome, but I find it unlikely, given that only in the last couple of elections has even having a female president become a real possibility. 50 years sounds like a long time, but with reelections it could be as few as 6 presidents.

Openly gay, unlikely. Maybe 100 years, if the country lasts that long? *lol* Definitely closeted gay and queer, I would be surprised if that hadn't happened again. We're unlikely to even have a non-Christian president, so an openly gay president is a major stretch, in my opinion.

I have my suspicions too about closeted Presidents.

Honestly, I'd love to have a gay (or lesbian) Presidential candidate come out when they get sworn in...especially if it's a Republican candidate!
We've had two presidents who were not open but lived with 'roommates' or had rather suspiciously close male friends. It would not surprise me to learn that we've had several more gay or bi-sexual presidents already. Now an openly gay president would be a milestone to be sure but I'd like to see a female president as well....just cause, ya know?

Except there is also little to no evidence he WASN'T gay either...and I never read those trashrags.

Thinking about it 50 years is only 12 elections away. I don't really think that in 12 elections there will be a gay President that is openly gay. We haven't even allowed gay rights yet, let alone become use to the idea of open gay people especially ones in power, so I don't think it will happen in 50 years, however I hope I am wrong and there is one. I would love to see a gay or lesbian President. I do think their will be a women President in the next 50 years. I'm hoping for a great candidate.

Maybe we've already had one. It's possible we could have an openly gay president in the next 100 years but 50? Probably not. Americans are still way too uptight about homosexuals.

Now that gay marriage in the USA is (just barely) a majority position, I look forward to lots of Lesbian Power Couples changing our media and cultural landscape, and I very much hope some of them run for president.

Look, I can dream.

50 years is a long time! I'd say we could definitely have one. We already have prominent queer representatives in Congress, why not?

Funny, there's already been a gay president (James Buchanan), so an out queer one wouldn't technically be the first!

I'd laugh my ass off if a married Republican president got divorced in office then immediately came out of the closet.

It will happen eventually, but not within 50 years, it will probably take at least that long before the argument over gay marriage is settled(as in it being legal everywhere) and then probably another 50 years before America is ready to elect a gay president

Dunno. Things are progressing quickly in this country, but I think that 50 years might not be long enough for that, unfortunately.
This is my line of thought as well.

I just don't see it happening in our lifetime... but I hope I'm wrong.
