I had an experience once when I was having a nightmare. In the nightmare I was being attacked, pinched viciously, repeatedly, painfully. I woke with a start, sitting straight up in bed, a whimper leaving my lips uncontrollably. When I layed back down, I noticed my door was cracked open. It looked like someone was standing there grinning broadly, and somewhat maliciously, at me. Like they were laughing at the way I awoke. I thought it was my mother, and I scowled at the face. Again, I blinked and they were gone. I got up and no one else was home. Unsettled, I called my friend and asked if they were on their way yet, as they were supposed to be spending the night. It seriously gave me the wiggins..

Splendid, what you describe is most likely called a "Sleep Paralysis Phenomenon" it is not actually paranormal, but is caused when, in a simple explanation, part of the brain is asleep and part of it is awake and your dreams are "transposed" on reality. It is caused by stimulation of your Temporal Lobes and is more common in people with seizure disorders, migraines, and other neurological issues, but can happen to anyone, especially if they are over tired, haven't slept much and are very stressed.
I had these for years, until getting on one of the meds I take for my migraines, I mentioned to my Neurologist that my Sleep Paralysis was gone, and he confirmed they even used the drug just for this purpose in people who get really scared from it or have it happen really often.
There is usually a presence, is it usually either threatening or sexually arousing, you hear cracking or humming or buzzing, you CANNOT move, you want to scream but can't, it can take the form of a friend or family member or not anything recognizable, but usually it is totally neurological, and not related to the paranormal. It can be CAUSED by putting a person into an isolation state (a helmet with no light etc) and triggering their Temporal Lobe. Weird, huh?
I know, you'd think I'd think it was. But, I know my ghosts from my Neuro twitches.
It's scary, I'll grant you that. One of my kids gets them, too. Most of the time, though, these are explained by science.
