Wisdom teeth - what's the status of yours?
05/08/2012
I'm so scared! I'm 24 and I can see the back wisdom teeth poking through. I'm broke and don't have health insurance so it really makes me worry a lot. I'm not having any pain or anything so everything is ok for now. -sigh- I get stressed about it.

I'll have to get them removed for cranial surgery
05/08/2012
I had a bad time after surgery, but I'm glad I got it done.

Mine never came through.

I had mine out about 4 years ago, it wasn't fun at the time, but I don't really regret it even if I wasn't having issues yet.

i chose other cause i have one out and one in

Both bottom wisdom teeth are in, top ones are out. The bottom ones are against a nerve and since I didn't have any other problems, the oral surgeon suggested I leave them in there.

It's going to cost me $2k with general anesthesia-which I definitely want-but I guess it's worth it if it saves me from periodontal disease.

Got all four of them yanked when I was 15!

Got all 4 of mine out. Felt good as new after 2 days. Good luck

Mine have to be cut out. The 2 on my left side are impacted and are causing my jaw to lock. They might have to dislocate my jaw to be able to open wide enough to cut them out. OUCH!!!!!!! Of course I am procrastinating lol. It sounds sooooo brutal.

Mine are just starting to grow in. My family has given me a ridiculously narrow jaw, which is nice for the cute heart-shaped face it gives me, but terrible for dental stuff. I will absolutely have to get mine taken out, and soon.

I had something similar - all for wisdom teeth out and 4 adult teeth out to make room for my teeth to straighten when I got braces (for the 2nd time!) soon after. It was nice getting them done all at once and getting it over with!

The wisdom teeth were coming in impacted, so they had to go. Thankfully my insurance covered anesthesia (I think it had to be like 3 or more teeth out for it to be covered). No way in hell was I staying awake for that! Recovery was a little rough, but nothing serious. Lots of sleeping and some pain, and my jaw had to get used to opening wide again. The toughest part was probably not really being able to chew for a while. less

A few years ago, I went to go have the ones on the right side taken out. The top one was no problem. The bottom was another story. The nerves from my lip were all wrapped around my root. They cut the root off the tooth and left the root inside my mouth. They also had to take out a small part of my jaw.
Months later, I had to go back so that they could do the same thing to the left side. They ended up having to go BACK in on the right side and extract the root they left in.
I lost all feeling in my bottom lip. It took about six months before I could feel it again. The second dental surgeon said to consider myself lucky.
Now, everything is out and I'm good. It was hell.

One of mine rotted out before I was 18, so that was removed. Then I had the other three removed a few years ago. Hurt like a )(*&^*&%^ but they had to come out lol

Just a tip: If you smoke, I suggest putting it off for a few days. When I got mine done, I thought I'd be brave and "know better than my dentist" and smoke anyways-just lightly.....I had a dry socket form within two days and that hurt worse than the teeth being pulled lol.

Mine haven't bothered me at all yet.

Mine are long gone.
05/09/2012
Don't seem to have any problems. I don't think they even showed up.
05/09/2012
Mine are long gone. They were impacted as a teen and incredibly painful, so I had them removed.
05/09/2012
i don't even know what those are.

I had mine out when I was 18. If it's any consolation, the experience was nowhere near as bad as I anticipated. I had had other (baby) teeth pulled before because they weren't falling out quickly enough, and the wisdom teeth were hardly any worse than that--and bear in mind that they hadn't broken through the gums, and two of them were impacted. My face barely swelled at all (although I did get a bruise on my jaw) and I only had to eat liquid food the first night.
05/09/2012
All of mine are long gone.

I had my two top wisdom teeth removed when my oldest was about 1.5 months old. One of them had cracked and they just went ahead and took the other top one. I wish they'd gone ahead and done all four. My bottom jaw is really crowded and it's difficult to get the brush back there, but since they're not causing me pain and they're all grown in and not causing any other problems, they stay.
That being said, I hate the dentist and hate things being done to my mouth. It took 2 valium to get me in the chair. Since they're still in, I have no intention of getting my bottom two removed unless absolutely necessary.

If they start causing problems I will have them removed, but until then they are fine where they are.
05/09/2012
Mine are still in and no plans to do anything with them at this point.
05/09/2012
I had two removed. I was awake and have anxiety issues. So, yeah...probably the second worse experience of my life. I also loathe painkillers because they make me absolutely insane.
05/09/2012
I have 3 of 4 removed, then the insurance ran out.
I can't wait to get the last removed, but I fear what else they'll tell me I need done. I know I have at least $5k ahead of me in dental work. Sadly, my best option is finding and marrying someone with insurance.
