I don't like Mother's Day. My own mother passed away before my 6th birthday, so sitting with all the other kids to make Mother's Day cards and frippery just seemed like salt in the wounds. Then my dad remarried when I was 9, and I was really excited for awhile, because the lady seemed very sweet and nice.
The problem with my stepmother, though, is that she likes kids but hates other women. As soon as I became a "woman" (about 12), the emotional abuse started and never stopped. So for a few brief years I was excited about Mother's Day, but now it's a day where I have to remember to make a kind gesture towards a woman who helped make my teen years a living hell.
