Name-dropping, Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon ... yes, at some point we've either had close encounters with 'famous' people or had worked with them or know someone who knows someone else. The thrill of periphially being close to someone who thousands if not millions would recognize is fun. It's also fun to see who knows anyone else.
I know I don't have much in the way of name dropping. For anyone familiar with 1980's horror comics, my uncle was the man behind 'The Twisted Tales of Bruce Jones', and he also wrote the recent erotic/horror movie 'Genifer'. His wife (my maternal aunt April Campbell) was the model for his heroine in 'Somerset Holmes', and she herself had written made-for-TV movies like 'My Boyfriend's Back' (with Sandy Duncan) and 'Awake to Danger' (with Tori Spelling).
Through them, I have heard tales of Harlan Ellison (they were two of the few people he likes) and other comic book writers and various actors they had met while working in Hollywood.
My only brush with fame was standing next to voice actor Crispin Freeman in line at a deli. Surprised me when he took his shirt off right there and said, "Damn, Florida's friggin' hot!" My reply: "We poach the eggs in puddles instead of frying them on sidewalks."
And I did hang with Casper van Diem's sister for a bit. (It was hilarious hearing her refer to her brother as 'Cappy' and her trying to set him up with one of our mutual friends - this was AFTER he was in 'Starship Troopers', too.)
Anyone else?
