We were lucky when we purchased our new/used home 1 1/2 years ago that it had all hardwoods except the kitchen and bathroom. Love them all immensely and have area rugs protecting the middle walking ares. There's just something basic and natural about hardwood floors... I love them!

What Type Of Home Flooring Do You Like Best?

Now, area rugs, I like much better than wall to wall carpet. But, I don't hate wall to wall carpet, I just prefer seeing the wood & I get sick from the carpeting. I stayed in my rental house until all the renovation was finished in the new one. Even though I had to use all special stuff for people with chemical sensitivities, there was still some smell & of course, dust & dirt. It was nice not to be living in a construction zone & as usually happens with an old house, there were lots of unexpected surprises that cropped up. It ended up taking almost a year before I could move in, double the time expected.

I moved into my house about a year ago & was lucky enough to be able to change some of the flooring. I have hardwood everywhere except the bathrooms & basement. I have bad allergies & do better without carpeting, however I do have some oriental rugs that I can send out for cleaning & are easy for me to clean in between. I considered cork & other unusual floor options, but the house already had mostly hardwood which suits the style & my taste.

I'm pretty easy to please this way. I'll take hardwood, bamboo, marble, ceramic tile or carpet. As long as they're in good condition. I don't care for laminates or linoleum (which we currently have in our kitchen) but we always wait until something wears out before replacing it.

I love hardwood. Less to clean, keeps less dust, allergens, pet hair. If a spill or accident happens, it's relatively easy to clean up. You can always get runners and area rugs for softness and color and then you can change them when you get tired or want to redecorate!

We got really lucky when we bought our house. The former owner was a master carpenter, and laid down BEAUTIFUL ceramic tile on the ground floor, and a brick covered patio outside. It took us one look and we fell in love. However, we still have carpet upstairs, and after almost 4 years with three dogs and Georgia red clay, they are a disaster. I can't stand them, and I'm constantly cleaning them. I would love nothing more than to rip it all up and lay down hardwood.

We have the original wood floors in our 150+ year old house after living here for so long, I can't stand carpet. When I go to other houses and they have carpet, I feel like I have to take off my shoes.
Wood floors are so easy. I can track anything in, come in wearing my muddy cowboy boots, whatever, and just sweep the floor. Done.

Tile and wood floors are a pain in the ass to keep clean all the time. At my cousin's we can clean the floors and 5 minutes they are dirty again

I love bamboo and cork. Cork does well in high moisture environments.

in my place the floor is tile. But I would love to have hardwood floors or even bamboo.

Hardwood, easy to clean and not too cold.

I prefer carpet in bedrooms and family room, but hard surfaces (wood, tile) everywhere else.
