I think we all know a person who carries a ton of stuff around with them everyday, so this list is much longer that the wallet one. Please mention something you really think someone, or you, carry around in your purse, that I missed!
These following are already accounted for, no need to mention them:
cash/checks
credit/debit cards
government ID's -driver's license, Social Security card
other ID's - work, school
basic contact information (in case wallet is lost)
emergency contact information (in case you can't speak!)
membership cards
library card
pass cards as for public transit or tokens
business cards
insurance cards less

I have a lot of receipts in my bag too! >_< I'm bad about hanging onto grocery receipts.
04/12/2013
I actually carry more electronic gear than anything else, iPad, iPhone, Business cell, Bluetooth keyboard, 2 USB rechargeable batteries, recharging cables, a pen/stylus, headphones, wallet, brush and lipstick. Everything else I need is either locked up at work in a drawer or here in place at home. Where else do I go?
04/13/2013
my purse is fairly small, and i'd actually like to get a bigger one, but when i use it i will usually have: wallet/cellphone, a seven day supplie of my meds and BC, a tube of lipsick and eyeliner, mints, a compact mirror, the book i'm currently reading or my nintendo DS and games, as well as my all natural headache balm which has come in very handy. I used to carry a mini sewing kit, but it ended up falling appart so i havent carried it with me in some time now. i'd really like to get a new one though.

I like having the little kits I got from hotels - the nice ones give you nicer kits! But, I have found a neato little sewing gizmo/kit that has a row of needles, all pre-threaded with different color thread & when you need a quick fix, it's great. I originally bought it for my mom when she lost enough eyesight that she couldn't thread needles anymore. When she uses up a length, I refill it for her, usually with black thread. I also like the small vanity kits from hotels with cotton, mini emery board, cuticle stick, etc. all sealed into a tiny package so it doesn't get messy. BTW, you are so smart to have some meds with you! I'm going to PM you about the balm.

I go back and forth between small and big purses. I'm bad about filling them up! Right now I have ID, insurance card, business cards, debit/credit cards, camera, lip balm, lipstick pen, change, receipts, and usually a scrunchy or two just in case!

Besides wallet and keys, most of my purse's contents are beauty items. I also keep my vitamins and birth control pills in there, so I'll have them with me if I'm out.

...I think I checked off most of that list, but better prepared than utterly screwed right? I like to keep a small knife and folding water bottle in there as well.
I'm looking forward to adding a few essential "bug out bag" items to it so I'm even more over-prepared than usual though.

I carry quite a few stuff depending where I'm going. And of course I noticed so far I'm the only one who checked the underwear. This is because my periods sometimes start WITHOUT me knowing. So you can imagine that I don't want to walk around in a pair of icky panties.

I'm not a full fledged "prepper" myself just yet, but with the way the world is heading lately, it's certainly looking like a damn smart idea.
I bookmarked a ton of stuff online a while back for just that purpose actually.

My favorite book is by Carla Emery, The Encyclopedia of Country Living -- it has anything you could ever want to know about living a self-sufficient life, but might be too much info you don't want like growing all your own food, birthing babies by yourself & living with no electricity or water! And to anyone who thinks nothing could possibly happen in the US, look at Argentina, enough said!

It's been years, but I used to carry a cloth diaper, a clean pair of nylon baby pants or a wrap, extra diaper pins and a washcloth with my "baby butt cleaner" solution in a zip lock plastic bag and a small tube of regular Desitin. ("I love the smell of Desitin in the morning!" P'Gell) Plus a "wet bag" for the dirty diaper or dirty or wet baby clothes that result. And, a sleeper in case of blow outs. And of course, a few baby toys and a sippy cup and a bag of "fishy crackers" for older babies and toddlers.
If I'm going somewhere where I have to sit for a while I'll have a book. At the moment, it's Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris or Weird Chicago by a bunch of authors.

Pens are evil though, they never seem to work when you actually want them to so having a couple (or about ten) back-ups is pretty much a necessity.
I also tend to carry three or four pencils just in case the pens decide to go on strike.
Thanks for sharing the links to those books, by the way. :3

I hate carrying lots of stuff. It hurts my shoulder and gives me a headache. So, I have a pretty small purse, but it's really nice. My mother-in-law likes to dress me up, so I always get a nice purse for my birthday. She knows that I would spend $5 bucks on one and use it for years if it were up to me.
But, since I don't want to damage it by carrying around a ton of stuff, nor do I want the crazy headaches, I'm pretty minimal. I carry a wallet, a travel size perfume, a lip balm, and that's about it. If I actually remember to carry my cellphone, my cellphone goes in there. However, given what I do for a living, it's not crazy for me to have some sort of sex toy in there.

Thanks, that's one of my oldest girls, I have 5 cats, she & her sister became mine about 7-8 yrs ago when they were 6. I had just put down my old cat & was crying, naturally, & asked if the vet had any abandoned kitties I could have. These two were abandoned 6 months prior by a young guy who raised them from kittens! He left a note & all their toys & blankets outside the office the day after leaving them to be boarded, (it was an animal hospital that also did short term boarding of dogs & cats). He said in the note that he was sorry to purposefully deceive them, but he was moving in with his girlfriend & she didn't like cats! I will refrain from saying what I really want since this is a forum & not a PM or wall post!

Thank you for the recommendations, I'll make a point of checking them out when I'm a bit more alert...pulling all-nighters kind of temporarily messes with my ability to retain information well until I get some sleep.

The book is my favorite out of my entire collection. The breadth & depth of knowledge & experience she had was stunning. Unfortunately, Carla died a few years ago from a congenital condition with low blood pressure. I am old enough to remember seeing her on the old Merv Griffin Show!

OMG, I have & love them both! Thanks for replying to the thread for me, P'Gell & including the links! I got bogged down trying to respond to all the discussions I started, oh vey! Alicia gave me the best tip ever on relieving menstrual cramps! She illustrated a position in the book to help stop the cramping & it works, but sometimes you have to stay like that for a while to get it to work.

Anyway, KyotoAngel, I didn't know how in depth you would want to go with the prepper knowledge & should have remembered that as a writer, you probably like research, even if it's just because it's interesting & you won't apply it. I love knowing about all the self-sufficiency stuff, even if I don't, or can't, do it myself. I am your girl, if you want to talk about anything on that subject & it looks like P'Gell is, too!

However, given what I do for a living, it's not crazy for me to have some sort of sex toy in there. less
