What gets you up and going when you just don't want to get out of bed?

Contributor: LusciousLollypop LusciousLollypop
I know that some days.. all I want to do is just stay in bed. I have been doing that more frequently and just lay there. I feel safe in my bed and I feel like.. well.. who cares. I don't need to get up. I eventually get bored just laying there and find some energy to get up and take a shower/get dressed, IF I get dressed that day. Sometimes.. nothing helps. It just happens.

I usually need some help. I sometimes drink my favorite coffee, a few cups, or my favorite tea to get me going.

What gets you going in the morning or afternoon when you are just having "one of those days" where you need a little pick me up?

Sometimes I just don't get up. I call my mom to come bring my son to school and pass right back out. Other days a shower will give me enough energy to at least get him to school and back home. Depends on how bad my mood is.

On weekdays, staying in bed is simply not an option. Helping the youngest get dressed, getting the oldest off to school, packing a lunch for the husband, attending meetings if its meeting day. I simply HAVE to get out of bed. It's kind of mandatory. However, once everyone is off to where they are supposed to be, it's tea and breakfast, and then I feel at least a little better. The only days I can just stay in bed are days when I'm very ill. Even then, not always.

Sometimes its the thought of making a cup of coffee that gets me up, or one of the dogs is whining and doing the potty dance at the door and I know if I don't get up and let them out I'll be cleaning carpets. I work overnights so my sleep schedule is all sorts of screwed up. On my days off there are periods of time where I don't get up or dressed for like 48-72 hours, the only thing I do is let the dogs in and out and that's all the energy I can muster.

Sometimes I don't get up at all too. I just lay there. My boyfriend gets home around 3pm, and I am still in bed. It depends on how bad my mood is too. I almost had one of those days and I was thinking about all the things I needed to do today and I had to will myself out of bed and take a shower. It was seriously the hardest thing to do, which is ridiculous but it makes sense to me and I am sure it makes sense to you.

I wake up every single morning at 5am to make breakfast and make my boyfriend his lunch for his work day. After that, I go back to bed. I don't know why, but getting up at 5am is easier when my alarm goes off.. I just get directly up and do what I need to do, and go back to bed. After that.. it depends on my day. I may spend the entire day in bed or I might get up at 10am and get some shit done. You seem really busy, but that is good. You have a schedule. I need one of those.. Like a plan. I make a lot of lists. It is kinda OCD of me.

I understand. When I was working nights, graveyard, that is how I would be. I would work from 10pm to 7am usually five to six days a week and it totally wore me out. I couldn't handle it at all. I'm glad that you can handle it for the most part but the energy part is hard. I know it. xoxo I'm proud of you.

Well I am lucky now that my boys are older and I can just lounge around in my jammies all day! Working night shift really gets you and sometimes I just need a recovery day!

I just remind myself that other people are counting on me, and I muster the energy. It's not usually the best day - but I did get out of bed, and some days, that is good enough.

Shower, coffee and sometimes breakfast. And I look at that stack of never ending bills, and that's motivation in and of itself.

I wish it was that easy but with kids you don't have a choice but to get up. I don't use anything to help me. I will lay there until my child needs something and then just get my ass up. If I am still in bed I will make sure they are taking care of and then go back and lay down.

When I have those days, I usually stay in bed until someone makes me get up or I can no longer hold my bladder.

Usually the bladder wins and I have to go pee.

I try to do that to. My boyfriend/Master is counting on me to be sane and get some housework done. He is counting on me to do something with my day and be productive. Sometimes.. I just can't. I try, but it is difficult. You are right, some days.. that is just good enough. It doesn't have to be a perfect day, those are rare nowadays, but the ones that aren't so good.. it is good enough. Thank you for replying in such a way that I can relate. It means a lot. xoxo

Kids are so foreign to me. It takes a strong woman to have children and be a good mother. I commend you, completely. I am honestly almost jealous. xoxo I don't think I am sane enough or have enough "motherly instincts" or am mentally well enough to handle children right now. Hopefully in the future, I do want children. Just right now.. It isn't in the cards until I get myself better. xoxo

I guess this is a running routine for a lot of us. I know that finally getting on EF and posting on the forums, browsing for new things to buy, planning on which purchases on which days I'll do it on.. it is a nice distraction from my life.

It's funny that you said that about getting right up when the alarm goes off. I have to do that too or I am not going anywhere. But if my husband wakes me up and not the alarm I get in a weird mood! ( I can't help it though he messes up my whole schedule!)

My pooch is the only reason I'll get up on time. He needs me to let him out to pee in the backyard, do his morning walk with him, administer his acid pill, and give him his food.

Don't rush hun when you are ready and when the time is right. They are a handful especially my little one. She is worse then my son was at her age. I am so stressed out right now I don't know what to do. She takes all my energy that I have. I have to get up in the morning to get my son off to school at 6:30 I get up before my alarm goes off or if the baby gets up early. Then trying to put her back to sleep is a trick. Then I have another alarm set for 9:30 by then I don't want to get back up but I have too especially on days I have therapy for my back. If I have a day I don't have to be anywhere I won't get out of bed until 11. But of course she is attended too.

I am completely the same way! If it is a alarm, I get up completely and straight up. It takes my boyfriend atleast 30 minutes of snooze time to get up himself. I am just up if I hear the alarm, then I go back to bed once he is off to work. If he wakes me up on the weekends.. I wake up so out of it.. almost angry. LOL I am like.. leave me alone. I'm sleeping!

Thank you for those words of wisdom. I don't know how you do it. It is like you are wonder woman! I am envious of you for taking on such a big responsibility. I guess the motherly instinct just kicks in. It sounds like a full time job, which is it from what I can gather. I won't rush, don't worry. Thank you for giving me some advice. You are the sweetest. I hope it will get better for you and you will be able to relax a bit more. I know having children is rewarding, but starting out with the little ones, it must be difficult. The rewards will come. I hope? You are such a doll. Big hugs.
