I was a veg for 4 years but started to eat meat again because I missed bacon. :/
I felt awesome when I was veg though.
Now I try not to eat much meat and I am thinking of going pescatarian. That's one thing I can't give up, seafood.

Starting to eat meat is SO difficult. I tried to throw myself back into meat and just felt so gross.

I love veggies but I NEVER incorporate them into my diet. I just eat junk all the time and its terrible. I feel like you have to be very mindful of everything you eat when you choose to be a vegetarian or a vegan and I basically just eat whatever is in front of me!

I was a vegetarian for 3 years. Meat is yummy, but I eat healthy lean meat. I don't eat any baby animals (i.e. veal and lamb). I have eaten deer once, but I could never eat rabbit meat!

I have never been a vegetarian of any sort, though my mom is. She is really hard core about it, and since I don't live with her, its fine with me. We tease each other about foods, since I don't eat many veggies and she doesn't eat meat. Although, since she IS one, and I know her, I have formed this view about vegetarians that isn't really the nicest (I know its not true, no need to tear me a new one)

I honestly find any sort of people who conform to an eating method weird. From vegetarians to my little sister who only eats noodles with butter...to my brother who only eats the spaghetti sauce when we have spaghetti. Haha even my boyfriend who eats everything under the moon is slightly weird to me

Why stop when you become pregnant? That's the BEST time to be, perfect health for you and your baby.

How in the world did you have 'trouble getting enough protein'? There are many sources vegs get, some of the highest and best are plant based protein. A few include spirulina, quinoa, buckwheat, hempseed, flaxseed, amaranth, edamame, tofu, tempeh, beans/legumes, seitan, TVP, kamut, nuts & seeds, barley, cornmeal, brown rice, millet, oatmeal, rye, bulgur, whole wheat bread, wheat germ, wheat, wild rice, couscous, nutritional yeast, plant milks, plant meats, vegetables, and fruits.

I stopped eating red meat one summer when I was in middle school. Then my Dad made a great looking steak one night. I love cows, so I just try not to think about it.

I'm not really a meat or veggie person. A lot of both are pretty unappealing to me, which I think is probably from how I was raised. My mom almost never included vegetables with dinner, and when she did, they were just canned corn or peas. And her definition of medium-well cooked meat is actually blackened. I've had to force a lot of dry, tough steak and burgers down .

I tried being a vegetarian for a while, but it didn't work out for various reasons. (Some being that I can't resist BBQ'ed meats and that my relatives were sometimes offended when I didn't eat their food...it's a cultural thing). That, and I found that eating vegetarian and being healthy, getting the right amount of protein, etc., required a lot more planning and prudence which as a poor, busy student, it's a little hard to take proper care of yourself when your diet is limited.

These days, I prefer vegetarian meals because I don't like preparing meats, they're expensive, and more animal and eco-friendly. I will eat meat for convenience or protein intake purposes, but even then I really will only eat fish (no shrimp if I can help it, shellfish, etc) beef, chicken, and some other birds like turkey and quail. The only port I eat is bacon and ham. When I can afford it I purchase ethical meats from free-range animals.

I'm self-indulgent. When I am on a fruit kick, there will be strawberries, grapes, apples and oranges for miles. When I'm on a meat kick, same thing. I can eat an entire pound of bacon and not think twice. I eat what I crave. I've weighed under a hundred pounds since high school. I'm relatively healthy aside from the impact of my smoking habits and most of all, I'm happy.

Actually, there are different types of vegetarians.

Some who consider themselves vegetarians will eat chicken or fish, but only on very rare occasions and usually out of courtesy to the person cooking or out of convenience as to what is available for protein.

Some will eat dairy but not eggs and are called lacto-vegetarians. Some will eat eggs but not dairy and are called ovo-vegetarians. Some will eat animal byproducts and are called ovo-lacto-vegetarians and they eat milk, eggs, honey, etc. Some are strict vegetarians, some are vegan, some are raw vegans and only eat fruits, veggies, and nuts cooked to a certain temperature. Some will only eat fruits, some only vegetables, some for religious reasons, some for political reasons.

I do notice a certain trend amongst many of the 18-22 year olds that my sister hangs out with, it's very "hip" "trendy" and "Cool" to be vegetarian/vegan. They don't have any real reasons for it other than to follow what 1-2 of their friends are doing. And they're really snotty/political about it. *finger in throat gagging action*

I became a vegetarian when I was 18, unwillingly. lol.

I was so broke while working for Disney I had no money to buy meat, so I just dropped meat eating.

I still don't eat much at 23.. I can handle chicken and love seafood..

Ummm... I had more to say and hit post too fast.

And part of what I mean by political is that they try and get other people to be. Are always offering tips to people, but they don't actually eat a healthy vegan diet and eat lots of potatoes and pasta instead of finding good, healthy sources of nutrition. Which is something I really dislike, when people are so sure that their way is the only "right" way and consequently shove it down the throat of everyone they come in contact with. Especially when they talk about how healthy it is, and in the same breath have cigarettes in their hands, are drinking themselves stupid, and smoke up to oblivion night after night. Seems just a little bit hypocritical.

I could do with or without red meat most of the time. I could even do without chicken or turkey or pork some times. Like someone else said, though, I cook for my family and they are not prepared to give up meat, so I eat what I cook.

And I won't lie, I do like the taste of meat quite a lot.

*steps down off soap box*

My vote falls into the missing "Not a veg or vegan" category. I'm quite aware of the benefits and philosophy of both, however, so I can't vote for the "what's a veggie?" category.

I agree, I'm not fond of the judgmentalism of some, but not all vegs. I was a vegetarian for many years a LONG time ago, before "meat analogues" at the time when people thought that "food combining" was all the rage, a time when it was very hard to be a vegetarian, no one cared nor provided for you if you ate at their house, and most restaurants, outside of those which served breakfast all day had ANY vegetarian friendly things on the menu.

When I became pregnant with my first child I needed meat. I needed it. I hadn't eaten any in years, never missed it, yet my body craved it. I ate a Whopper, in a fit of severe pregnancy nausea and immediately felt better, actually started gaining my much needed pregnancy weight (I was 20 lbs underweight when I became pregnant the first time) and never really looked back.

My heath has always been shitty, it didn't get ANY better while I was a vegetarian, and although I admit it is a valid life choice (one of my kids has been a vegetarian for years, and many of my friends are) BUT it is NOT for everyone.

Science has proven that there are different types of metabolisms, and some people NEED concentrated protein and amino acids and high levels of B12 in the form of animal meat. It's proven and I won't argue with it. Some people can live quite nicely and comfortably with no meat ever, a few can live for long as vegans (although in the past 25 years I know at least 100 people who have tried, at least 90% of them either "cheat" or have gone on to become lacto-ovo vegetarians or simply gone back to an Opportunivore diet, which is how all primate eat, with the exception of the Mountain Gorilla, the only primate, out of all species of primates who eats no meat at all. All the rest do.

Many of my friends are veg, vegan (usually only for a year or two, though) quasi veg, "I don't eat red meat" (I was all of those, with the exception of vegan) etc. Most of them are respectful of others, don't judge other people or tell them mean things about their chosen form of diet. One couple started refusing to come to our house, because our dishes and pots and pans were "contaminated with animal death and your house wreaks of death due to the meat you eat." OK. My Man and I just stood there with our mouths open. IMO, treating animals well is one thing, but treating other HUMANS like shit as part of the deal isn't in my Book of what kind people do.

Luckily, most of our veggie friends are kind and lovely people. Although the ones who are vegan are damn hard to feed.

I was a vegetarian for about a year. I just wanted to try it out, but I found that I still wanted meat and often craved it. I don't eat much red meat now, though. I stick to more chicken and seafood than anything, but the majority of my meals consist of veggies. I don't buy those packaged pasta or rice sides, so my meal usually contains two sides of veggies and a small portion on chicken or seafood. Every once in a while I will make something with ground beef, like spaghetti or meatloaf, but very rarely.

I am a picky eater before anything else, it was too much of a battle to eat the way I wanted to in this house so convenience meals have become the norm. I eat meat or fish about once a week usually.
