UPS

I have been expecting a fleshlight to arrive all day today. The guy never showed up at the door and I have been home all day. The website to track my order says that I was never home and they will try again tomorrow. The stupid UPS guy must have gone to the wrong house, WTF!!!

Has this happened to any of you?

I'm guessing you haven't read the employee manual for delivery persons. This should clear things up for you:

I like my postal service (the drunk mailman I mentioned a couple of times) - he just shoves it in the mailbox with his foot and I have to extract it with a pair of forceps.

Yeah, if I'm expecting a package I always put a note out that morning saying "Hi UPS, please knock loudly, I'm home!"

Now that the UPS guy for my place here knows I work from home lots of the time, he will knock even if I don't leave a note.

But if you've never left a note before? I suspect a lot of delivery drivers never bother to knock.

i use the postal service & there have been 2 or 3 times where this has happened to me. i have stuff delivered to me often, & i'm not home most of the time when the mail guy comes, so i think he's just started assuming that i'm not home.

I haven't had this exact thing happen, but I have had them knock and then run off before I even have a chance to get to the door. This apartment isn't huge, and I'm not a slow mover. They must just not hear me or something.

I missed the first attempt on Thursday as I was working... And then it was a long weekend. Monday will be constant vigilance on my part.
Furthermore, they seem to expect me to pay them almost $60 in "brokerage fees". That's over half the price of my order.
As much as I love this site, I won't be able to order from it if this is the norm. I'll need to stick to Canadian sellers.

Haha, normally I leave a note to leave it on front of the door, and I received a package on a day that I wasn't really expected one, and I didn't leave a note. The package was left in front of the door all the same. Must have been a regular delivery guy.

No, this is not the norm. I regularly order from this site (think 2-3 a month) and I'm in Canada.

Seriously, this is why I have all my personal UPS packages shipped to work. Even EF ones. I just make sure it says PERSONAL ORDER in the company line. Because we have our own receiving dept in my office, it makes it pretty easy in an office of 23 people. I also make sure to track the hell out of my orders. But home delivery flat out sucks. I would always go USPS over UPS.

LOL!!!

UPS pisses me off constantly. They leave things in the bushes on the side of my house or require signatures for stupid things. The UPS office is about 45 minutes from my house so it's near impossible for me to get there. I always use USPS.

UPS has tracking on every package. If they lose it, everything is, at least, guaranteed. Unlike the post office.

USPS does amazing job (despite going broke), problem is they don't insure lost packages unless you buy separate insurance...included free with UPS.

With the base fees for UPS, I would not call the insurance free.

This makes me nervous. I just ordered my other package to come via UPS since my last package went missing for a week with my USPS. Do I actually have to be home for them to deliver it? They won't just leave it at my door? Because I know for a fact that I won't be home. I have orientation at my new job and there's no telling when I'll get home. -panics-

The advantage I see with USPS over UPS is the decentralization. Whereas UPS, FEDEX and that yellow one have central hubs in a state, the USPS has countless offices, usually in every town. While costly and inefficient, it usually allows the postal worker to have an intimate knowledge of their territory. Further, since the USPS delivers 6 days a week and most people get mail at least a few times a week, the USPS workers are usually a good deal more knowledgeable.

Have you checked out these threads? The Canadian fees issue is being resolved currently, thank goodness.

UPS delivered a package we were expecting to our neighbor the other day. We got the notification that 'the package has been delivered' and looked around before finding it on our neighbor's porch.

If you leave a signed paper giving them permission to leave it somewhere (often in front of door), they will. Otherwise, they'll leave a paper.

Okay good to know! I will definitely do that! and get it stuck on the front door because I don't even know when I'll be home.

I had USPS walk past my husband to leave a note that says we weren't home to take a package from here, when I've never had a problem with packages being left on my doorstep before. I went and filed a complaint.
