Ok, I promised you guys a post here - but there's just no way to really explain everything I do, so I will generalize. As you can kinda tell already, we all wear many hats here.
My job is overseeing much of what my team does (Gary, Carrie Ann, Kristi, Laurel, JR, Sammi, Cynthia, and Jenn); advising, brainstorming and coordinating with all of these guys.
We also have daily meetings for different integrated teams that include office staff, SexIs staff etc. Lucky me, I am in all 5 meetings, because somehow I am involved in all of it, and because I work closely with Fred.
I work on developing new projects, bringing in new columnists and managing a few existing ones, sponsorships, events, conferences, writing copy, creating proposals and marketing materials, handling some manufacturer relationships, doing sneak peek videos, EdenLink, coordinating community interviews, and helping with or advising on anything else that crops up. I am good at mapping things out, creating campaigns, and mobilizing. It's a lot of work, but I enjoy the challenges.
Gary and I are in the office often - it is about 70 miles from our house (each way). I go in usually one day every week and have what I call "mega-meetings" with Fred (and often other staff for parts of our meeting) - those days are 12 hours+.
Pajamas or not, it's real work. And working from home requires more discipline and temptation than most would imagine, as well as creates many tough situations, like knowing when to actually stop working, and how to handle constant interruptions when you have children etc (which many of us do). We have set schedules and serious deadlines.
Everyone here works their ass off. This is not an "easy" job. Seriously. Slackers don't last, and people who cannot work as part of a team don't stand a chance. We all are very transparent to each other - we all know what each other is working on, and we all know what is going on in the community, with SexIs, and so on, because of this. It's a good thing!
I love my team, I love my coworkers, I love this company, and I love this community. I have invested my heart so deeply in my work here. It is a huge part of my life. Watching the work we all do collectively have such an incredible impact for so many people (more and more) is wonderful and meaningful.
And yes, I drink TONS of coffee
