That Subway Smell

Oh man, that SMELL. The entire time I was pregnant with both of my kids, I would literally CRAVE the smell. I love how it just seems to punch you in the face the second you open the door, but then realizes "Oh hey there, didn't recognize you. Wanna make out?" (Why, yes. Yes I do.)
I'm convinced that the smell is the reason why I'm a habitual Subway addict.

My guy used to work at subway and when he came home he just smelt horribly of subway - it was awful and i hate it!

It's one of those scents i can leave or take

It's just an okay smell. Not spectacularly good, but it doesn't really bother me either. It's definitely distinctive though

I certainly know the smell you're talking about, but it doesn't bother me much.

I like it!

I hate the smell. Can't go in the place because of it.

I don't think they use lard. I assume it's the flavoring they use in the bread, which the oven then heats up and spreads around, especially the flavored breads.
Jimmy John's (a mid-west competitor to Subway) even has a marketing slogan boasting about their similar smell, and their windows all have neon signs that say "Free smells".

I can't say I come across Subway often...I don't eat much fast food. I can't remember any smell from the last time I went there.

Cat E.
Just yesterday I was waiting in the car for my mother, who was in Subway getting us subs and man, did she smell when she got in the car. I always comment to her about it.

I know what smell you're talking about, but I don't like it or hate it, as I don't eat there, but I've been in there with friends.

I spoke to one of my friends about it, and he said he used to work there roughly five years ago and that his work clothes STILL smell like subway. That you "can't wash it out." He said it was the lard they use.
Most interestingly to me, because I HATE the smell and find it somewhat nauseating, he said that Subway considers it part of their brand and that apparently, most people LIKE it.
Do you like the smell? less
