Have you ever had surgery of any type? A friend is going in today for minor surgery, and I find myself a little overly worried I suppose. But it made me wonder how many people here have dealt with a surgery.
Surgery?

I had my gall bladder and tonsils removed. It was no big deal either time.

I had tubes put in my ears when I was a kid, I don't recall it being a huge deal at all. I think it's natural to be anxious about any kinds of surgeries, but minor ones (especially pretty routine minor surgeries) are very safe and easy to recover from.

I have had five surgeries where I had to be asleep for them and two in office procedures. Oh and I guess you can count when I had a pre-cancerous mole removed. I could hear the doctor cutting into my skin. It was the wildest thing ever. I even had stitches!
Waiting for someone to come out of surgery is the most exhausting and worrisome thing ever, so I feel for you. It just zaps all of the energy out of you and gods forbid that the surgeon showed up late and the surgery takes longer than everyone expects. That'll really put you in a tizzy.

I haven't had anything at all done, the closest I could get was when I got my wisdom tooth cut out, but that's about it for me. Dealing with surgery is hard for the person waiting, but have faith that your friend will be all right.

Minor (wisdom teeth)

Minor, Wisdom teeth as well, though apparently it didn't go as planned. I would have never known though.

I've had major and minor surgery. Minor was placing a screw in my broken ankle and a few years later it getting taken out(They were going to leave it but it started digging into my tendon, ouch). It was general anesthetics.
Major surgery was a C-section. I was fine, had a spinal.

I had to have a D&C, but that was minor. I also had to have surgery when I was a toddler, but that was minor as well, they just had to go in and clean the infection out of my throat from the left over stick that went into my throat. I do not know much about it, but I think I must of put a stick too far into my mouth and when they cleaned me up, did not do a good enough job, so then had to do it a second time around.

I've had my gallbladder removed... it was definitely a bigger deal for my family and friends than it was for me because it took longer than expected LOL... I was knocked out, I had no idea what was going on!
11/17/2011
I've had a biopsy in which I had to go under. There were no complications and the scar is gone!

I had my tubes tied just last month, done by laproscopic means (still knocked out, but only minor incisions). I'm told it's minor and routine surgery (they kicked me out of post-op as soon as I said I needed to pee - that's how minor they consider it), but my recovery took a while ... still recovering a month later ...

I have had about 12 different sugeries and they ranged from a D&c up to a full hysterectomy. And a C-section delivery. Most of them were major, two minor ones. I had some minor complications with three of them and the last one was pretty severe, I had to get a blood transplant. I would not worry, complications are pretty rare and usually happen the more often you go in for surgery. Good luck to your friend and be strong!

Oral surgery; just getting my wisdom teeth out!

I was born 3 months premature and have cerebral palsy so I had surgery out the wazoo when I was born. Surgeries I remember though is getting tubes put in and taken out of my ears, getting my eyes aligned (yet, my right now wanders again...sigh) and getting my wisdom teeth pulled.

I just had my daughter 6 months ago when I had her I had a c-section, biggest surgery I've ever had. Pretty intense moment specially for your first surgery, and you AWAKE for the whole thing. It's really wierd!

Tonsils, tubes, several ear surgeries, and tubal ligation.

I havent had surgery but I was sick when i was little and had well over 14 spinal taps in 2 weeks time. Glad I was way too young to remember that and the needle they used to keep the antibiotics going straight into my spinal cord. Glad Im alive but I get sick all the time now because I barely have an immune system because of those antibiotics.

i had surgery when i was 13, but it was oral surgery. i had an impacted tooth, so they connected a chain to 1 of the brackets on my braces & connected the other side to the tooth. i had a chain going into my gums where they had pulled the baby tooth (& where the impacted tooth was supposed to come in), & when i went to the orthodontist every month, they would pull 1 or 2 links each visit to pull the tooth down. i was awake & not numbed when they pulled the chain every month. i only felt pressure the 1st few times they pulled it, but the last few months, it really hurt when they pulled on the chain. they pulled my last 4 baby teeth while i was under, too. they were only going to pull my 2 upper eyeteeth (both baby teeth), but i also had 2 other baby teeth left in the back, so they said they would just go ahead & pull those as well.

i've had my wisdom teeth out, don't know if that counts. i also have had laparoscopic surgery to find out why i had intense abdominal pain and that's how i found out i had endometriosis.
11/17/2011
I have had 2 major surgeries in the last three years. Once to help my endometriosis...the surgian went into my belly button with lasers to remove extra endometrium tissues. The other was to remove a cyst from my right lung. I'm really good with pain so I don't think it was as bad as my docs warned me of. I will admit for most people the word surgery is freaky to hear. For me its normal since my mother has had 14 surgeries and beat cancer 3 times. Just remember there is a risk for everything in life but it is meant to help us live longer and more comfortable. I have many family memebers that are there for me before and after I come out of surgery and I know they hated the waiting room. My mom almost wore a hole in the floor . Your friend will be fine!

Tonsils and gall bladder, different times though.

Sorry about the spelling...my phn is auto typing :-! But I also had a biopsy where a tube was inserted down my throat. A needle was then used to pierce thru the chest wall and get liquid to test. I was awake but given a numbing med to numb. My nose. I was supposed to be asleep but I have a high tolerance to heavy duty pain killers.

Minor surgery for wisdom teeth removal.

Surgery is nerve racking no matter if it's big or small. With so much info on the web it's easy to find worse case senarios and freak yourself out. Don't worry, I'm sure your friend is in good hands and will be resting comfortably by tomorrow!

Nope, never had one, but would like too (vasectomy).
