Sticky Fingers: Have you ever shoplifted?

Contributor: Beck Beck
My boys have stole and when I'm loading them in the car. I realize what happened. I take the item back into the store. I feel so guilty. (My boys are 3 and 1, so they don't no stealing is wrong, yet.) I have stole myself before. In my teen years, I stole makeup and clothing. I stopped doing that though. I only believe in stealing for survival, now. If I have no food for my children, I will steal it, but that hasn't happened. So, I haven't stole in years.

My Aunt steals often. She has even got new coats for her sons, on time. All she did was go to the store and had the children pick out their coats. She pull the tags off. And threw the coats in the cart, but made turn one sleeve inside out. She finished shopping for what she could get. And then in the check out told the children to put on their coats. Walked out with brand new jackets.

I'm ashamed to admit that I stole a few things when I was a teen. Not proud of it and I do regret doing it.

No, but the internet is a different story.

I took a thong from Victoria's Secret once, ages ago. It was 12 bucks. I ain't paying 12$ for a piece of fabric that doesn't cover my ass.

I don't really regret it, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable shopping there again, either.

I also stole some monopoly pieces when I was little and told everyone I got them from my travels around the world... :|

Ah yes, my shoplifting days. All went well, up until I tried to take that damn $80 leather top and didn't notice that they had 2 plastic sensors on it. BUSTED! lol. I was under 18 luckily, so I got community service and the store didn't press charges. I got off easy, I'll admit. But that scared me straight!

Except the arresting officer treated me TERRIBLY....I really should've taken him to court for it. He cuffed me so tight that when the cuffs came off they had actually broken the skin and my hands were numb, which I told him in the car. He actually cuffed me even though I was going peacefully and he was really rude to me. But his name cracked me up: Officer Hore LOL.

Now I focus more on my world takeover schemes rather than shoplifting

Nope, but I was once accused of shoplifting.

I was looking around in a store for about 2 minutes, when a manager approached me and asked me what I did with the red striped sweater I "was just holding". I hadn't even seen a red striped sweater that day and told him so. He went on about how he and one of the employees had seen me carrying it. I told him this was ridiculous, and walked promptly out of the store. Next thing I know, I'm approached by mall security guards, the manager of the store, and the employee. Then there was a 20 minute period of questioning/taking down information, and threats of how the cops will be called if I don't turn over the sweater. I dumped my bags and the manager and shop employee still insisted that I had that sweater (though it was nowhere to be seen).

Such a ridiculous ordeal, especially as I had never seen the red striped sweater to begin with.

I sent a nice letter (and made a few phone calls) to the stores headquarters, though nothing ever came of it. In fact, both the manager and store employee are still working at that store (8 years after the fact).

I was married to a thief and unfortunately it rubbed off on me while we were together. I've put that all behind me since we've been divorced and I'm definitely not proud of what I did.

Nope, never stole anything from a store. Interesting stories, though.

I used to take candy from my gym teacher's desk without his permission, when I was about seven.

I've also taken cigarettes from roommates without their permission, but I always put change in their pack in the cigarette's place. Hopefully that doesn't count... it's kind of like buying from someone without their permission. Kind of rude.

I have found items that weren't scanned on my grocery list from Wal-mart a time or two, but I don't particualrly care about that because it's not my fault because I always put all my groceries up there and if there's heavy items in the cart I tell the cashier so they can scan them with their hand held device.

Wal-Mart did my husband wrong when he worked at the Distribution center and hurt his knee and back, they told him he didn't do it there. Ok sure he just got hurt in his sleep because that's the only place he's at because he's working 12 hours for you guys. To this day he still has knots in his lower back and he'll never be the same. I really hate Wal-Mart so if they don't scan an item on my list it's their own incompetence.

When I was young I used to think the candy next to the cash register was free so I would take a cpl pieces and would walk out. Wasn't until my 5th time that I got caught and told not to do it again.

I was, maybe, 8. I found a piece of candy that comes in a bigger bag, but are packaged separately, but can't be sold separately. Told myself they were going to sweep it up and throw it away. Since it was in a lil plastic wrapping I stuck it between my foot and flip flop and kinda hobbled out of the store. I felt horrible for it for years. Then I realized it really would have just gotten thrown away! So... is that shop lifting? Lol.

In my defense though, the second time I actually tried to buy the item and its price was missing so I was made to stand around for 15 minutes while the store manager was contacted and then finally told that they couldn't sell it to me without the price tag or something.

When I was 7 or 8 yrs old I stole a candy bar from a drug store and got caught by security. They took me in room and had me sit there while they called the police. When the police arrived, they put me in the squad car and gave me a ride home. Scared the hell out of me. Never stole again after that episode.

I did once when I was a little kid because I didn't understand the concept of paying for items. I thought the only reason I could have something was because my mother didn't want me to have it, not because we couldn't afford it or anything. Then again, it happened at Goodwill so not being able to afford it is a crap excuse lol.

Did it once or twice when I was younger, and I still feel bad about it. My twin made a hobby out of doing it, how can 2 kids come out at the same time with the same genetics and be so different?
