I would wait until you had a new job lined up. There is no guarantee how quickly you will be able to find something.
Should I quit my job?

I would say yes, but in this economy make sure you have a new job before you leave your old one! At least you have a job, ug I'm sooo broke!

The most obvious reason is that you don't know how long it will take you to find a new one---if you are having a hard time finding one, and you run out of money before you're newly hired, you're going to have to settle for another job that you'll be just as miserable at for the spending cash.
And in addition to that, the people in charge of hiring at most businesses take the fact that you're already employed as a sign that you're a good and reliable worker. If you quit, even by your own choice, you'll come in from a position of "hi, I'm unemployed right now" and that's usually a strike against you, unfair as it may be. less

Not in this economy
07/10/2012
Even thought you don't like your lob you should wait until you find a new one.
07/10/2012
I would wait until you found another unless you have money saved up or a S.O that can help until you get another job.

I would personally find a new one make sure that you are going to be making the same amount or more before quitting. I lost my job several months ago, have a million applications out with no luck at all. In this economy its better to stay put at a job you that pays your bills then to leave and not have a job at all. Good luck in whatever you choose to do

Ummm.. no. I personally would not just quit a job before securing a new one unless the situation was urgent or I'd been harmed or harrassed in some way. Now if you have another means of income or a partner who's income is plenty, not a big deal. Especially if you need out. That's understandable. I do think it'd be less stressful to secure a new job or at least have a good idea of where you want to go before quitting. Only because you don't want to end up with extreme stress and be overwhelmed when suddenly the bills are due and you need a new job asap. Just tread with caution, prepare a little bit and do enjoy yourself. You shouldn't have to stick with a miserable career. That's one thing I've never wanted and always promised myself I'd do whtever it takes to have the career(S) that truly make me happy. That's extremely important to me. One thing I want to say is: don't limit yourself or settle. Definitely go for what you want, no matter what. Even if it means needing to take a class to become qualified. If it's something you know you will love or will find rewarding, it's worth it.

You should look for another job and get some strong leads.

^ I have to agree with all of this. I'm miserable at my job and been there 5 years, not even making much more than I did when i started. (Not even a dollar more.) But I'm still there while I try to find a new job and plan to go back to school.

Sticking with a miserable job is better then being stuck at home with no income! And lining up at the local food pantry because you don't have any money to go shopping.
07/10/2012
I've quit a job that was detrimental to my health before without waiting to find a new one but best case scenario: find a new job before you quit your old one.
07/10/2012
Depends how badly you need money. If you have enough of a cushion to relax for a few months and find a new one then go for it. But if the bills are piling up I suggest you have something set up ahead of time.

It depends on how much you need money. If you don't need the money, you might as well quit now.

In today's marketplace, you are FAR better off having a new job FIRM IN HAND, and with all details in a WRITTEN OFFER with a FIRM start date, prior to even thinking about leaving ANY old job...miserable or not. Believe me, being WITHOUT a job will re-write your definition of "miserable".

It all depends on your situation. I quit my job because I couldn't take my boss anymore and I have so many other things on my plate right now. I figure I will be moving soon anyway. But if you NEED the money, don't quit... if it isn't that important, I would.

I would try to find another one first, but if you get to your breaking point then you have to decide if it's better to quit and hope for the best.

unless the job is killing your soul Keep it till you get another one. My boyfriend quit his job and it took 4 months to find another one & he was really bored at home for the 4 months... see if you can take a few days off
07/10/2012
I would find a new one, then give your notice to quit. dont want to loose an income and not be able to replace it quickly.
07/11/2012
FIND A NEW ONE FIRST, MAKE SURE THEY ARE INTERESTED IN U, WHY QUIT NOW WHEN U CAN BE MAKING MONEY DURING UR SPARE TIME??
07/11/2012
As bad as a crappy job is, having no income with any bills to pay means you will be stressed and worried and won't be able to enjoy yourself. Find a new job first if you can.
08/12/2012
As much as it sucks you should really deal with it until you find a new one, you don't want to run out of money!

Definitely find a new one first. I think we have all been in a bad position of being at a job that we hate. But, you got to pay the bills, so toughing it out for a little while will really help you in the long run.
08/12/2012
find another one first.

In this economy with alot of people searching for employment. My suggestion is to keep your job but start looking for a new one. You have to go into it as it is keeping a roof over your head and food in you stomach so until you find a better job.. It is best to stay where you are at.
08/12/2012
I would hold on as long as you can. I was in your shoes just over a year ago. I started job hunting and arranging interviews around my job. I did walk out finally, but I had enough paid time off coming to last me for a month. One of the places I had interviewed had called me for a second interview so I was pretty sure I had it. On the other hand though, had I not found a job within that month I would have but us in a major financial strain.
08/12/2012
No just look for you job then quit. my job drives me crazy as well but I know I need money so i suck it up.Also it looks bad to be working at a job for a short time.
08/12/2012
Definitely work hard at the search, but everyone is right, now is a bad time to just jump without a parachute!!
