Planes, trains, or automobiles

Contributor: Jul!a Jul!a
Everybody has different preferences for how they want to do any kind of long distance traveling and different reasons for it. Some thing that driving is safer, while others argue that planes are. Trains quite often cost less than a plane ticket or gas for driving, but can take days longer than driving to get there.

So how do you prefer to travel long distances? I'm talking the pack up and go on vacation like, 3 states over, or the other side of the country type things. Feel free to share the reasoning behind your thinking as well

Personally, I'd rather drive just about anywhere. I drive from around Chicago to New Hampshire a few times a year, and I'd much rather not fly. On top of I hate having to go through security because seriously, I always manage to set it off, but also because once I get there, I don't have to find a ride around or try to rent a car, I have my own.

I will opt to drive almost every time the wife and kids go. The wife does NOT fly, and I can not imagine taking the kids through the security at the airport. I will fly if I am by myself. Did it for work for three years, four times a month.

And really, I LOVE to drive.

Oh snap, I normally include that in driving, even tho my motorcycle is dumb and not for the highway. Still a fun way to get around tho.

I love flying. I plan to eventually get a private license at some point. Planes are just so cool

When I go overseas, it is definitely via plane. Traveling within the states is also usually via plane unless it is within the 3-4 states around me and if I have time, I will drive. When we vacation, taking between 2-4 weeks at a time, we usually drive (again if it is within the states and not overseas). But in the future I see us taking our vacations in a totally new way since I bought a sailboat 2 weeks ago.

I hate flying. I didn't mind it so much until I had a truly awful and scary experience on a puddle jumper. I'll do it now, but I really don't like it and would rather drive.

I wish they'd get the transporter developed, so I could have my "atoms scattered across space by this gadget."
That'd be traveling

Nothing is safe or guarateed to keep you from dying or having an accident! You can have an accident no matter what you do, or how you get there!

Flying is so much faster, but these days its so much more expensive!

I'd still rather fly.

I'm a sucker for random road trips, and I've never flown (can't wait to though!).

And, of course, the teleporter in my closet is awesome.

I'd prefer driving, but with the long spaces between nothing edited out. I've been on one long road trip that was awesome. I hated that most of the western states were 90% country on the radio stations.

I would love to do more random road trips, though.

I find a way to play my iPod through the car speakers for my whole 18 hour drive, lol. Driving through New York at night and Ohio any time of the day is treacherous. There's nothing to look at when you're going through on 90, lol

I'm a fan of the ferry myself, but I love driving and am fascinated with trains.

Really, technology is mind-blowing. Not only can I fly through the air and be on the other side of the world tomorrow, but I can talk to people thousands of miles away from me in the comfort of my own bed...Forgive my babbling.

I like the freedom and convenience of driving. Schlepping young kids and all their stuff, in addition to my own, across airports and then all the waiting and having to constantly keep them entertained is NO fun. If I'm somewhere that has decent train service, like the UK or Europe, then that's the way I want to go.

I prefer driving as long as it's not a huge trip, but if it's a two-three day drive sometimes I prefer to fly, but if the kids are going it's much cheaper to drive!

Not a big fan of planes but to save on time, I'll take them. I also prefer someone to drive me to wherever. (I don't drive myself.)

They are doing everything they can to make flying a huge pain in the ass - and frankly they are succeeding. However, the distances I travel there is no alternative.

I chose other because I prefer to travel cross-country on vastly overloaded rickshaw, towed via donkey.

When that option is not available, it depends on where we're going. Across a few states, we drive. Across country, I definitely prefer to fly. I've done way too many non-stop 30+ hour drives with friends and family, trying to take turns sleeping and driving. Then you get there, and you're so worn out that you waste a day trying to catch up on rest anyhow. It's just not worth it to me anymore.

Teleportation of course 8D hehehe

Er the only train I've been on was the Metro that runs in the DC area and it was kind of super boring...

Being on a plane was fun though, just not the stupid kid that sat behind me and kicked the seat. Definitely interesting experience I wouldn't mind repeating... although flying alone w/o someone you know is boring as hell.

Walking sucks. It's way too much effort - and physical exercise needs to be fun for me to willingly partake.

I hate driving, but if I'm going to be in a vehicle I prefer to be driving... or asleep... kind of counter intuitive I guess but hurhur

It would depend on where I was going and why. I have only been in a plane 3 times and only once in a passenger jet. If I just want to get to the destination as quick as possible that would be my option. I've never been on a train but if I wanted to enjoy the trip I would go with that option. I really don't like long drives so I wouldn't want to do that but if I had to I would try to make as many stops as possible along the way to enjoy the scenery and local culture.
