Are you in the path of the Hurricaine? (Irene).

Are you in the path of the potential East Coast hurricane IRENE? If so, do you plan to evacuate? What do you take when you evacuate (if you realize everything else may be gone when you get back)?

We're in the piedmont, so we'll get some rain but there isn't much of a threat of an actual hurricane knocking on our respective doors.

i'm about an hr from georgia's east coast, but i'm staying here at school. there's a good chance that we'll just have a huge thunderstorm w/ a lot of wind.

It's still a little early to tell, but there's a pretty good chance that we're going to get hit with it. We're not even thinking about evacuating though. We survived a direct hit from hurricane Charley when it did its tour, so Irene isn't worrying us at all at this point since it's a much weaker storm.

My parents live a little south of Miami. They're probably not going to evacuate. They went through Katrina and Gustav while in Louisiana. We've been through Hugo when it made a direct hit on the city we were living in. My family is super experienced. I just wish I was down there for the hurricane parties!

Well I have not heard about an east coast hurricane but I was in Philly this morning for the earthquake. That was fun.... NOT.

We might see some of the rain off of it but it won't hit us here in the Mountain State!

I'm in Upstate South Carolina, so even if Irene were still aimed for our coast, I wouldn't evacuate (too far inland). I HATE storms, so I'm glad I don't even have to expect heavy rain/winds now.

I'm on the coast of Maine, and they're predicting a pretty direct hit for us Sunday into Monday; torrential rain and damaging wind gusts. They're evacuating the marinas and such starting today, and there are supposed to be 15 foot waves in the Casco Bay, which is unheard of, starting tomorrow night. The boyfriend and I are planning on exploring the coast this weekend. No fear! Haha!

Originally heard it was gonna make landfall in the Carolinas. Now I hear it's probably going to hit New York too. So that sucks! Curse you, Irene!

They continue to adjust the track of the Hurricane, but I think we're going to get hit no matter what. It's just a matter of how strong the hit will be. At the moment, they predict Category 1 which is an improvement overly earlier predictions. Short of mandatory evacuation, I'm not going anywhere.

Yeah, they're talking about NYC getting absolutely hammered. If there's a big storm surge with this storm, lower Manhattan is going to be in some serious trouble.

It's my first hurricane! I've never lived on the East coast before. Thankfully, I'm in Philly, which I suspect won't get nearly as much as those nearer the coast. I'm still kind of nervous, though!

This is my second big hurricane. My first was Gloria — am I showing my age? You can see the path of that one if you visit TWC Hurricane tracker and click on "historical tracker" towards the bottom of the applet.

At the moment, my area has voluntary evacuations. I'm crossing my fingers they don't become mandatory. I KNOW I'm going to lose power/internet at some point (hopefully for hours, not days), and the windows, walls and roof are going to take a beating. However, I'd much rather be miserable in my own home with my candles, batteries, bottled water and canned goods, than miserable in a crappy high school gymnasium on a rickety cot where you have to line up and deal with administrative attitude just to get a granola bar and a box drink.
