Articulate reader, maybe, I couldnt get over his eyes racing back and forth between lines. And dont kid yourself that he actually wrote that speech. Logic is the last thing on his mind.
Well, to be fair, Darling Jen didn't say he was an "eloquent writer", just an eloquent speaker I think we all know that presidents, prime ministers, etc., don't write their own speeches.

I completely agree. He brings dignity and respectability to the position.
I think he balanced the fact that people will find the death of bin Laden reassuring and positive, while reminding people that bin Laden doesn't matter when it comes to our own happiness, closure, and future. It was just a very perfect speech in my eyes because he touched on everything I feel he needed to and even more to bring unity and comfort.

Can you tell I kinda like Obama?

Of course. Almost no speeches of politicians in office at the senator or governor level and up are written by them. But some are joint efforts between the politician and the ghost writer. And of course there are nuances between what was written and what's spoken and how.

If you want to see his own stuff, refer to his campaign. I still stand by the fact that he is a most excellent speaker (and writer when applicable). I mean, let's compare him to Bush, shall we?

I have been having conflicted feelings.

I am not glad that someone is dead. I don't think that rejoicing in the loss of life (no matter whose) is appropriate. I am glad that he won't be the responsible party for further ... more
They did DNA testing to prove that it was indeed his body that they had. Also, I'm happy that people got justice for the lives lost and families torn apart with the 9/11 attacks and also the other acts of terrorism he performed on his own people.

Yeah, it wasn't just American lives he violated, abused, destroyed, etc. It's safe to say it was all of humanity that he terrorized.

Obama made a good point in his speech that this is not a war on Islam, but a war on terrorism. I'm glad that he reinforced that point to everyone. I do worry, though, about the amount of celebrating people are doing. The US took custody of the body and buried it in the sea to avoid people worshiping his grave site and his death as martyrdom. The celebrating, however, is making him seem like a martyr and I really don't know if it's wise. Though, people around the world and even in his own country are celebrating, so I don't know what kind of repercussions that will have.

I have hope

I was kinda of surprised that they decided to announce it so late at night. Seems like an interesting choice. Guess they had to get on it before all the info got our other ways.

It's not necessarily celebrating his death but more celebrating the justice of his death.

Did anyone notice that the announcement interrupted The Apprentice? Did he trump the Trump?

Thanks for posting this last night. I saw this thread and immediately turned to CNN. I tuned in just as the President was starting his speech.

Mixed emotions over here. I am glad the world is done with him but there are so many more of his kind. I am worried about the waves of violence this will set off. It is scary to think that my husband goes back and forth with deployments and that there are so many people out there wanting to do him harm. I just pray this gives some people closure. And I promise to do my happy dance when my husbands deployments take him to Hawaii and Alaska. Not Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm glad he said that too! There've been too many wars based on religion over the course of history.

I read that they buried him as sea to accommodate the Islamic belief that a body most be buried within 24 hrs. You have to think that this was very considerate on their part. If they hadn't taken that step and violated that belief, what would that say about America as a whole?

Please thank your husband for us - and thank you for supporting your brave husband. The grit and determination of men and women like you and your husband assure that those who are intent on enforcing their ideology can never succeed!

THANK YOU!
