I agree with both of you and your earlier comment Airen.

Case by case, just cause it is ok for one person, doesn't mean that everyone will be comfortable with it.

You remind me of a video I saw of an xbox user who's name was JesusDiedLOL. He showed how people reacted to his name...lets just say it wasn't well received.

I've not seen any myself. But ya know, I'm mixed on it. On the one hand, it IS a sex, adult-only site so it kinda makes sense. And there's freedom of expression and all that. And if someone doesn't want to look at it, scroll down or click somewhere else.

But on the same hand it could be in bad taste, really bad taste, and isn't very professional and it could really bother some people.

Eh, I don't know. I'm glad I don't make the decisions on difficult things like that.

It depends on how graphic it is, but I prefer not to see a user's body--no matter what the level of attractiveness is. I can imagine it might be a little awkward if you have a very sensitive partner. If she/he came into the room as you on a site that shows naked avatars, there might be some explaining to be done! Yes, it's a site that sells realistic toys, but still...I would find a full frontal or spread labia avatar extremely tasteless and I would happily accept rules against this.

Oh good point. I wouldn't really want to see the intimate parts of other users either. And I would definitely be taken aback if my partner was looking at a site of pictures of people's personals.

Yeah I think that's a big part of it too. I can usually just look away but if I'm trying to show my wife something new I'm always worried she's going to see something that might turn her off.

I just seen a pretty graphic avatar that just made my eyes pop out. I feel uncomfortable because I was surprised by it (And I draw naked people a lot!). It was a photo of fellatio. I fear the image of the website might change a little if a ton of people had these kind of avatars. I kind of wish there were rules. I know what kind of website this is, but I like it because it is probably tasteful to a wide range of people.

agreed!

I don't mind tasteful nudity, more on the artsy side. But an avatar of a fellatio is bit much.

I like the idea that this is a tasteful adult site, and wouldn't want EF to lose that image. Just my opinion.

Your avatar...perfect example of tasteful nudity...even if the model wasn't wearing anything.

The figure in my avatar is unclothed, and she is in the midst of performing a sexual act. I would hardly call this imagery vulgar, I would call it beautiful art.

It is, of course, in the eye of the beholder, no?

See I wouldn't call that nudity but that's me. I think I've seen that user with the picture of fellatio. It's pictures like that that really bug me. Some of the other stuff is fine though and is more the sort of stuff you would see for someone modeling a piece of lingerie vs straight out pornographic imagery.

Who gets to define what is tasteful and not tasteful?

Don't we all? We all chose what we think is tacky or trashy, we all chose what's tasteful or not.

On a site-wide level, it's difficult to say that XYZ is too much, but ABC is fine unless there's a limit like "no full frontal nudity" or "no sites of genitalia."

So many good points from both sides (if you want to say we have opposing sides)

I liked what Carrie Ann said, really was quite a good point. I also got to say I agree with Lauren about nudity and it being tasteful.

I do not know where I stand, its a hard question. I think its great if people can find a way to express themselves artistically. Bare backs, butts all can be great works.

But then we get into whats art? whats not? whats tasteful? whats not? There is no way to get a pure definition of that.

I would only have a problem with anything illegal being put into the avatar, and I am sure Eden would deal with that, so I am not worried.

Only solution I could see is the ability to turn off avatar graphics in your account settings, but the draw back is, you lose a lot of personality with this.

Tough one. Good discussion.

I've been on another forum (not sex related) where there were some questionable avatars, and there was a selection to turn off all avatar images for the account (so you don't see any, but you can still have one). That seems to work OK.

I think that Brian does have a point - for some people graphic images of sex can be a big problem. Yes it's personal, but it can suck you into places and thoughts you don't want to go. Letting people turn off avatar display for their accounts would be an easy (hopefully) fix.

Pornographic pictures in reviews would just be wrong. There's plenty of places on the net you can go to get them, EF doesn't need to be one of them. They don't add much and are not classy.

Good point. I appreciate how EF puts the little leaf over nipples ad genitals of models on products and would think a similar policy on avatars would be reasonable.
