Does it bother you when new followers post "following" on your wall?

I'm starting to get really irritated by people posting "following" on my wall. Every time someone follows me, I get an email alert about it, so I do know when people start following me and I will go look at their profile. Do people not realize this and think they need to alert me to the fact that they are following me? Or are people just point farming off of profiles?
Either way, I wish something could be done about it. I've had a message saying to not post "following" on my wall for a while now and people seem to be deliberately ignoring it.

not at all. i'm just thrilled that someone stoped by and said hello.

This is nothing new, people are just following what others have been doing all along, why don't you ignore it? You don't have to check their profiles if you don't want to.

I actually started out just ignoring it at first when they introduced the whole following system. It's just started bugging me more and more lately.

I have a very simple reason that it bothers me: an email is provided that lets me know I have a new follower! Then another email is generated to let me know someone has posted on my wall. I love it when people talk to me on my wall...but "following" isn't talk. It's a let down and leads me to not check my wall and miss actual posts.

I've wanted to post on these people's wall, "I KNOW you are following me...." but I figure it's not meant to irritate.
Perhaps a short, "Hey I really liked your review of..." or "I love reading your forum posts..." would be a nicer way of saying "I'm following you"? I always feel like some sort of weird pied piper, what if I lead you all off a cliff??!!???

No, not at all. I actually love it when someone posts on my wall, even if it just says "following".

I personally don't mind, though I can see why it might annoy others. I'm surprised email notifications aren't more customizable, though.
07/12/2012
No. I'm happy people want to say something to me.

More the better IMO

No, it doesn't bother me...although I can see why it would bother others. If it bothers you, I'd just take that notification off so it won't email you every five seconds. That's what I did anyway

No, it doesn't bother me at all. I like seeing new coments on my wall even if they just say following. I am happy to have new followers!

Sometimes it does, if I get a whole bunch in one single day.
07/12/2012
I do wish they put something pertinent. I think the act of following is more than enough.
07/12/2012
Nah. I do it back when I get a new follower. Doesn't bother me in the least bit.

New contributors may not realize that an email notification is sent with each follow and message posted on the wall. Generally, when I receive the emails at the same time, I know to ignore them. No biggie.

I agree that a note on why they are following, even if it's short and sweet (i.e. "loved what you said about ___ in your review on ___" or "I was interested in your comment on the thread about ___" gives me a connection to that person.... and a better chance I'll follow back.
When I see a rash of someone following 5, 10 or more people in a space of a few minutes, I'm probably less likely to follow. Especially if there is a pattern like someone going through ranks or alphabetically.
I don't want to be rude, but yes, I know someone is following me, just like everyone else, because I got an email alert. When people follow, unfollow and then follow again, (with yet an other message) especially in the space of a few days, I'm highly unlikely to follow back.
I usually follow people I feel a connection with, either from the forum or from comments on reviews. I always want to "know" people I follow. Then, when I feel I have seen posts from them, I'm more likely to follow back.

That doesn't bother me nearly as much as people who follow and immediately unfollow, or people that seem to expect that you will automatically follow them back if they follow you.

It doesn't bother me because I don't have an alert set for posts to my wall or new follows, just if I get messages. I check my wall whenever I get on the site. Plus I like to know when new people follow me without having to look through the list .

I usually find the people who just say 'Following' are usually new members to the community. Generally someone will see something you posted and like it, or your personality and follow you. Honestly it doesn't generally bother me, I have had a lot of people follow me that won't say anything.

But between getting points and other factors you will always have people "following" you Doesn't irritate me at all really.

I'm not bothered at all. I like occasionally interacting with others on here.

Doesn't bother me one bit because what else are they suppose to say? There might not be a reason they are following you! There maybe a reason and they don't want to comment about. Either way, doesn't bother me in the least. I always comment back "thanks for the follow." and move on with my day.

I probably will next time I see it. I was hesitant to because it kind of felt like tattling, but it is important to get it taken care of.

Does not bother me at all. Much like the comments on reviews, they are nice enough to say something so I am good with that. Plus, like others have mentioned, I get two emails so I know I can ignore it if I want.

It doesn't bother me at all! I view it as saying hi. I do like it when they add more to it so that it feels more like an introduction, but even just "following" is fine. I probably miss new followers if they don't leave a message. I don't click on the followers tab very often. Many times that "following" message is the first interaction one has with other contributors. One can choose to view it as a message from a potiential friend, or a message from an irritating stranger. Your choice!
