What a great story! Sounds like your mom had radar! I'm glad you got to keep him. I love a happy ending with animals.

That is awesome! I love that show. It's been ages since I've seen it. Maybe they got it on Netflix.

I have had many cats over the years. Currently our two cats are Sabu (after Sabu the wrestler), and Orange Juice (I like silly names). I used to have a mostly white calico with 3 white legs, and one brown (she was soooo cute) and I called her Peg Leg or 'Peggy Leggy' was her nickname. I used to have two cats named from SNL skits - Count Monster Rod Von Hugenstein (Monsterrod for short), and Chopper Four.

When I was 3, my dad incubated chicken eggs with us. One day I was eating cereal and my mom came in and said "Your egg hatched! What do you want to name him?" I looked down at my bowl, looked back up at her and said "Milk."
So I had a pet rooster named Milk for a while.

I have had tons of pets throughout my life and still have a lot now. My silliest pet name was Sparky. I named him when I was 3 because "he runs so fast that I can see sparks!" .. I was a weird kid haha

I love it! Good nicknames are part of what makes a good name IMO. My sister gave me a kitten she had rescued. She named it Lemon (because while bathing it the soap turned her fur yellow) and was using Lemy and Lemy Hoo-hah as nicknames. She thought they were cute and clever. I hated the names with a passion. Especially since Hoo-Hah sounded like a bad euphemism for vagina to me.

I renamed her Victoria even though it really pissed off my sister.

Growing up we had a cat that showed up at our house one day and she was pregnant. We took her in after she stayed around a while (she was a very young cat) and let her have her babies in a safe warm place. I was in middle school around that time and I was going through a country music phase and listening to a lot of Shania Twain. After we decided that we were going to keep her and she stayed around, my stepmom asked me about "Who that female singer I always listened to" was.....and so we decided to call her Shania. She was a great cat and my best friend. She helped me deal though a lot of rough times in my life as I grew up. Sadly she died right after I got out of the Air Force and after I found out I was pregnant. I still miss her....

She sounds like she was a really special cat & I'm sorry she's gone! it sounds like she 'raised' you & then, when her job was done & you were ready to raise your own baby, she knew it was time to go.

She was and I agree with you. As a pagan, I believe she was my familiar in a lot of ways. She was the closest thing I had growing up and was cool as could be. She even drank my diet coke! And stole (shared) my saltine crackers when I was sick! (Which was quite often).

Yeah, I don't think it possible to love an animal and not constantly call them 80 silly variations of their name... to endlessly confuse them.

Lol. That's cute. I call my cat Max "Poo Man." No real reason for it, it just popped in my head one day.

We have two cats:

Freckles.
We had gotten him as a kitten, he was abandoned by the family who owned him along with his brother and sister (who now have good homes). He had gone through a month of being called Kitten because we didn't know what to name him, let alone if we were going to keep him. Christmas Eve my husband told me he found a home for him, and I was heartbroken, I didn't want to get rid of the little guy.
The next morning I had found Freckles under the tree with a great big bow (he would not stop playing with that!) on his head and my husband sitting next to him. Apparently new home meant he was going to stay.
He's white with tan spots on his back, hence his name Freckles XD. He loved that name the minute the husband named him.

Mischief.
THE NAME SAYS IT ALL. She was VERY mischievous as a kitten, everywhere at once, all over the furniture, it only took one day to finally name her Mischief. She's a tabby cat

I've had so many animals in the past and they usually end up with lots of silly nicknames, so much more fun that way!

The three cats we have now are named Mahalo, KittyBoy and Señor Nacho Cheese. Mahalo and KittyBoy are litter brothers. Nacho was given to us by a friend at my husband's work who couldn't keep him because he'd be over his animal limit at his apartment.

Mahalo is so named because his front left paw is deformed, it basically looks like he's giving the Hawaiian "mahalo" hand signal (pinkie and thumb sticking out while all other fingers are bent down; proceed to wiggle at the wrist while saying "mahalo"). He's also a bit mentally retarded but we think it has to do with his birth deformity, etc. He's probably the oddest cat I've ever known but he's so frickin' adorable! His nicknames include: Me-cholay, Me-choles, Fluffy buddy, Me-hole-ay, Mahalo The Ripper and Mahalo the Destroyer of Paper Towel Rolls.

KittyBoy was actually named Tiger for a while because he's tiger striped, but we started calling him KittyBoy after a series of books my son was really into at the time, Skippyjon Jones. Skippyjon is a siamese kitten with huge ears and pretends he's a Chihuahua who has adventures. KittyBoy definitely has adventures, he gets into everything and is so damn smart it's downright scary sometimes lol. Oddly enough KittyBoy doesn't really have any nicknames.

Nacho got his name based on his coloration, he looks like a creamsicle but I didn't want to name him that so I looked up cat names on the internet. Once I came across Nacho I knew that was the one for him, we just added Señor and Cheese onto it to really make it his own. Nacho's nicknames include: Fishy, Chub chub (he's our portly fellow), Belly with legs, Water Bag (he used to drink himself to near bloatation when he was a kitten) and Nach-Nach.

I love this question!! My first cat that i had i named Lucy link after a character in a skit on the show "Vermillion pleasure nights" I encourage you to watch the clip i thought it was hilarious.
For my two cats that I have now one is named Peaches/peach-marie as I call her when she's sassy and she was named partly for Princess peach in mario/ because the lady we got them from referenced her as the "peach foot kitten"
Our second cat who we later found out was male was named "spooky" because when he was just a wee thing he would crawl all the way up the stairs in our loft, sit on the very top stair and stare down at us through the railing for hours, he wouldn't move, he was pitch black with big gold eyes and we always referred to him as the "spooky kitty" and that is his name.

Th cat I mentioned, Violet, trusted me so much that whatever I tried to feed her with my fingers, she ate! She would just open her mouth like a baby bird & eat it. I love all my pets, (and everyone else's, too, ha ha), but some are just extra special to you. I was sick a lot when I had this cat & she used to stay with me, so I am touched to hear another cat did this for someone! My mom's cat, Lulu, drinks her SlimFast! No matter how hard she tries to keep it away from her, that cat will knock it over, just to drink up the spill. Before that, she had a cat who was crazed for tomato soup. Violet, my girl, was bonkers for broccoli! Ohh, I think I have a new idea for a discussion!

When I was five, my mom came home with a cat.

"What should we name it?" she asked.

"Harry," I responded without hesitation.

My mother cracked up laughing, and there was Harry.

I named my bearded dragon Voldemort because I love Harry Potter and I wanted to give him a cool name that sounded "bad ass" lol. Though there's nothing evil about him, he's a sweetheart.
