All the men in my family have military service but only one woman.
Military Service

I've never been in but my husband has been in the Army for 6 years so far...

Never served in the military. God bless those of you who have and thank-you for your service.

Although I haven't signed up yet, I'm planning on joining the Guard this January so I selected that.

None here, but that's because my brother joined first and I'd only ever salute him with one finger.

None. I still remember my mother telling the army I was a gay bed-wetter in order to discourage their calling.

I have military service, and was wondering who else did too-and what branches?
How long? How was it? Funny stories? I had some of the best years of my life in the service.

I actually WANTED to enlist. I WANTED to be the nerdy guy behind the computers with drones or support. I had exercise induced asthma at the time and the army would not accept me. I didn't try to hide it since it was on my medical records-never had an attack but I suppose the risk was too great.

I too have exercise induced asthma, but it wasn't diagnosed until after I was out of the army. Then I understood why running was so difficult and why I'd be coughing so much after. Oh yeah at 31, I was an old guy when I joined up too...
