They prescribe it medically to treat cancer and many other things, such as arthritis pain. I used to smoke it really heavily in high school.
During that period, I was so much happier and more easy going than I had ever been. My acne went away completely, I enjoyed life a lot more...
I'm really glad that the world is starting to open up to it more and see it's potential, and that it isn't harmful.
If it wasn't for the fact that I really need a job, I'd probably still be smoking it.

This surprises me somewhat. My understanding was that marijuana causes tar build up in the lungs as well.

Totally surprised. I guess that takes away all my bad feelings towards it. I'd really like to see it as a treatment for some illnesses and of course. Cancer.

I'm pretty sure most of the carcinogenic properties of cigarettes come from the crap they put in cigarettes, not the tobacco itself. This isn't really all that surprising.

I've heard marijuana compared to cigarettes in safety but it's not true. Cigarettes are way worse compared to smoking pipes, snuff, hookah, smoking cannabis etc.

My issue with marijuana was never about it being carcinogenic or not, it's more about what comes with it. Gangs... violence... etc... that's behind it. Even with the medical mj, people are being robbed for the stuff. That's just not something I want around myself, or my children.

The reason marijuana is involved in gangs is because it is forced to be, since it is illegal. Alcohol was the same during the prohibition. If it were available at medical places everywhere and available to everyone (who wants it) the drug dealers would have nothing to sell or be violent over (aside from the other drugs). People are robbed for less than their bag of marijuana. Down the street from my house, a women walking down the street pushing her stroller was robbed at knife point for her three dollars.

I'm not against/for pot because it causes/doesn't cause cancer. It's pretty much irrelevant to me.

Its actually used for medical purposes, including cancer and patients in pain (ex. arthritis).

It's the dose that makes the poison. In small doses, I'm sure marijuana does not cause cancer. Any chemical (ex aspartame) in large enough doses can cause cancer or at least make you sick.

I don't smoke anything, but I believe marijuana should be legalized and taxed up to high heaven, the same as cigarettes.

one of the reasons that cigarettes and alcohol should be banned, and not marijuana.

Actually something about THC breaks the bonds of tar in the lungs so it breaks down tar causing agents. And it in itself would only build up resin in the lungs; which isn't damaging it would seem.

Formaldehyde is an embalming fluid

link

herpderp okay that makes sense

"Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring substance in the environment made of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Natural processes in the upper atmosphere may contribute up to 90 percent of the total formaldehyde in the environment. Formaldehyde is an intermediate in the oxidation (or combustion) of methane as well as other carbon compounds, e.g. forest fires, in automobile exhaust, and in tobacco smoke. When produced in the atmosphere by the action of sunlight and oxygen on atmospheric methane and other hydrocarbons, it becomes part of smog. Formaldehyde has also been detected in outer space."
