How to you dispose of garbage?

Contributor: MamaDivine MamaDivine
My husband drives me nuts when he throws stuff away. NOt because hes throwing it away, but because he is forever wasting space in the garbage can. I keep asking him to crush things before they go into the garbage and he said that theres really "no need for it". Grrr lol. This takes up sooo much space in our can that it doubles our garbage bag useage. So I was wondering, am I the only one being picky about this situation?

I never fill up the can, so I don't worry about crushing garbage.

Family garbage: I almost never do it.
My own paper trash can: I almost always do it at some point (I put other things than paper in it, too!)

Pretty much never, Anything big, like a milk jug or box, goes in a separate can for recycling or burning. So most of the stuff in the trash is already pretty small.

I had to choose "other" because I break down anything made of paperboard (that doesn't have food on it) and it goes in the recycle bin, along with any plastic containers and cans. Unfortunately, no one recycles glass in my area so that goes in the trash. Everything else is fairly small, so it really doesn't need crushing. I guess I do break down or fold up anything else that takes up a lot of space. But I'm fairly OCD. I also have to orient all my paper money so the bills are all facing the same direction and the writing is right-side up.

I stomp on drink cans before I recycle them, just because I'm a big kid and it's fun, haha.

I tear boxes apart and everything. I don't want a hole in my bags and leakage!

Squish em down most of the time.

I always mash it down so that I have more to stuff in before I actually have to take it now. I think the extra effort of stomping it pays off against having to walk it all the way to the dumpster more frequently.

If it's recyclable, then I bring it in to a center. If it's large, bulky, and will burn, then I rid of it in a fire pit (I live in the sticks, yo), if it's neither then I crush it, cut it, smash it, and bring it to the county dump.

I squish all the squish-ables before I toss them into the trashcan. Mostly because it decreases the frequencies of me having to take out the trash.

I don't crush my garbage, but I rarely have a full garbage can so I don't need to.

I recycle everything that's recyclable; crush all the garbage and bag them in plastic shopping bags before dumping them into the bin. I never use the huge garbage bags because they waste too much room in the garbage bins.

My husbands cousin is a contractor and runs his business down the road from us so we pay to use his dumpster. (we don't have a local garbage route out in the country where I live). I try to crush my husbands soda boxes, and sometimes I break down my EF boxes, but most of the time I just gather it all up and throw it down there like it was.

I usually crush it if I know I can fit more into the can.
