My husband drives me nuts when he throws stuff away. NOt because hes throwing it away, but because he is forever wasting space in the garbage can. I keep asking him to crush things before they go into the garbage and he said that theres really "no need for it". Grrr lol. This takes up sooo much space in our can that it doubles our garbage bag useage. So I was wondering, am I the only one being picky about this situation?
How to you dispose of garbage?

I never fill up the can, so I don't worry about crushing garbage.

I do it only after the can is full...

Family garbage: I almost never do it.
My own paper trash can: I almost always do it at some point (I put other things than paper in it, too!)

I never do
04/21/2012
just put it in the trash
04/21/2012
Pretty much never, Anything big, like a milk jug or box, goes in a separate can for recycling or burning. So most of the stuff in the trash is already pretty small.

I had to choose "other" because I break down anything made of paperboard (that doesn't have food on it) and it goes in the recycle bin, along with any plastic containers and cans. Unfortunately, no one recycles glass in my area so that goes in the trash. Everything else is fairly small, so it really doesn't need crushing. I guess I do break down or fold up anything else that takes up a lot of space. But I'm fairly OCD. I also have to orient all my paper money so the bills are all facing the same direction and the writing is right-side up.

I stomp on drink cans before I recycle them, just because I'm a big kid and it's fun, haha.
04/21/2012
Our garabge can is almost never full for the pick up.
04/21/2012
i usually flatten bulky items
04/21/2012
I crush my trash. We have different cans for different trash and I get miffed too when a certain someone doesn't follow through with crushing things
04/21/2012
I always crush everything.
04/21/2012
I flatten boxes.
04/22/2012
I normally flatten the garbage and of course I recycle!

I tear boxes apart and everything. I don't want a hole in my bags and leakage!

Squish em down most of the time.
04/22/2012
I always mash it down so that I have more to stuff in before I actually have to take it now. I think the extra effort of stomping it pays off against having to walk it all the way to the dumpster more frequently.
04/22/2012
Sometimes I do it, not generally though.
04/22/2012
I flatten out most things.
04/22/2012
I flatten out most things but that is mainly the items for recycling
04/22/2012
If it's recyclable, then I bring it in to a center. If it's large, bulky, and will burn, then I rid of it in a fire pit (I live in the sticks, yo), if it's neither then I crush it, cut it, smash it, and bring it to the county dump.
04/22/2012
I squish all the squish-ables before I toss them into the trashcan. Mostly because it decreases the frequencies of me having to take out the trash.
04/22/2012
I don't crush my garbage, but I rarely have a full garbage can so I don't need to.
04/22/2012
we do. we have to. pizza boxes. cut. milk jugs. crushed. i try to crumple, crush, cut everything before it goes in so that we aren't spending more money then what we are on basic needs. it helps a little
04/22/2012
I recycle everything that's recyclable; crush all the garbage and bag them in plastic shopping bags before dumping them into the bin. I never use the huge garbage bags because they waste too much room in the garbage bins.
04/22/2012
I always crush everything
04/22/2012
My husbands cousin is a contractor and runs his business down the road from us so we pay to use his dumpster. (we don't have a local garbage route out in the country where I live). I try to crush my husbands soda boxes, and sometimes I break down my EF boxes, but most of the time I just gather it all up and throw it down there like it was.
