I say over 4. I know this from personal experience. We had 4 dogs before and were completely fine. But once we get more than 4 it gets to be too much.
How many pets is too many?

When you can no longer give them all the time they deserve, afford food and vet care, etc...that's too many.

I say it will vary per person or household. People manage entire farms with hundreds of animals. If they have the means to care or provide care for these animals, that is wonderful! More power to them. There are some people that can't handle 1 animal.
I have 5 cats, 1 dog, and a handful of fish. We care for our animals the best we can. We can afford them, hell even when we were low on cash, they cats never went hungry. We wouldn't allow that to happen. We make sure they go to the vet when they need to. We plan to have more animals one day, but at the moment we are out of space. We'd like to get two more dogs, a snake, lizard, and frog. My husband wants a spider, but that is never going to happen. Not in my house.

Depends on what kinds of pets and how much space you have. At one time we had 9 hamsters, 2 dogs, 3 lizards, 4 herrmit crabs and fish. We had more time and the kids were better with them back then.

Depends on the kind of pet. If its dogs or cats, I think 3 is ok, more than that is too much.

Iagree with this...If you can't properly care, feed, send to vet, and keep everything clean, then you have too many pets.

Depends on space limitations and how often they get exercised (if you have dogs or large animals)

more than four.

If you can take care of them all, give them enough time, and maintain your home (no weird smells or sights) then I say you're good.

It depends on the individual. I say, you have too many pets when you can no longer properly take care of them.

Each person is different as well as each circumstance so you can't really say how many is too many.

Depends on how they are being taken care of, etc. Chances are, if you have thirty cats.....too many

Depends on the types of pets. As long as you have the time, space, and money to take care of them all, you don't have to many.

When your home life starts to deteriorate. When you can't keep a clean home and take proper care of your pets keeping them healthy. When your home starts looking like you should be on Animal Hoarders. You need to be able to care for EACH properly, if you can't, it's time to give some up to people that can provide for them.

Too many is when you can't give each one the attention that it requires, keep up on the cleaning or afford the vet bills (including yearly dentals).

That is a different number for every household or mix of pets. I've had up to 8 and been fine and had a household of 3 that was too much due to one high maintainance cat.

Depends on the kind of pets, the family size, and the house/yard size. I've seen people with 10+ dogs, but they were a big family with a huge yard, and the dogs were mostly outdoor dogs.

So long as you can budget for unexpected vet bills and pay for all regular needs, and also have time to give them the attention they need, there is no hard limit. Just be sure you have enough space to avoid animals vying for territory as well as your attention.

So long as you can properly care for each and every animal (including vet bills - I know people who do everything right except for regular checkups) and give them the space and attention they need, and take care of any other responsibilities in your life, there's no upper limit.

I think more than 3 is too many... Although SOME people can handle it, I think.
10/03/2012
More then 3.

4 or more.

For me personally, maybe 2 and one of them has to be a fish. I only have one cat and she's so crazy, crawling over everything like a monkey, biting at my legs... Yikes! She's almost too much. I can't imagine having a bunch of crazy cats, it would be hilarious and make me insane.

2 large pets (dogs, cats, anything that requires constant attanetion) meanwhile you can still manage small ones like birds or reptiles. but 4 in total is an amount i wouldnt want to exceed.

i have four and when i catsat my friend's kitten for a week it was like i suddenly could not stand my house or the animals in general. the extra kitten totally threw off the balance.

some people seem to handle and love having an abundance of pets without even neglecting them.. i cannot understand this as i become very resentful to them at times

A friend has seven dogs.....but he has 10 kids, 2 acres of fenced yard, and the financial resources to feed and pamper them all.....so for him, it's fine! (Professional groomer comes to the house twice a month! These are all stray rescues too)!!!!! Lucky dogs!
