How do you protect your home?

Wow, that's awful. I feel so bad for her - worrying about the baby's safety, and the terrible sense of betrayal and paranoia that happens when someone invades your space

I lock everything, all the time where I live now. People have gotten really weird. I never used to, even when I lived in the Bronx, and nothing ever happened, but some global dial must've tuned everyone in to *psycho* lately because I'm hearing about things like this all the time now!

I keep the doors locked much of the time. My dad owns a gun or two, but I don't know if he intends to use them in the case of an intruder. He has his "beating stick"- which is an iron rod with some leather wrapped around one end for a handle, that he grabs when something really suspicious is happening. Personally. I'd be dead if someone broke in with violent intentions

We keep the doors locked. I used to live in the country, and a lot of people in the area didn't lock their doors at all, but we locked them at night. Now, living in the city, I try to remember to lock them during the day too.

Now that's pretty good protection! I have a knife, but no gun just yet.

Update on my sister... You guys are probably going to think my family is 100% freaks, but... it wasn't a real man. Uhhh... it's a... ghost. I know, I know, it's crazy! I thought it was a real man! It's apparently a ghost or she's gone crazy. Lol. All I know is she won't stay there anymore. She did say the baby said the "ghost" wanted to kill her (my sis) and that he hurt her. She had bruises on her neck! Poor baby! I have no idea what's going on since she left the house and hasn't been in touch, but it is super creepy.

Either way, I do appreciate all the sharing and advice! I've been considering getting a small gun, but I'm still kinda scared! Lol. (I'm a chicken!)

Ha Ha! Lol. I have a part Daschun/part weiner! He's "bad ass" too! Lol. He's bit before, but not now that he's old and trained. He does freak out if men are in the house besides my dad, partner or kids. If I'm in bed and someone comes back to my room to wake me, he "guards" me and acts like he's going to tear a hole in em'! Lol. He's so tiny he can't do much damage, but he's so protective. Lol.

MS. Spice, yes ma'am. I certainly carry pepper spray. Lately I've even been sleeping with it under my pillow when I work all night and sleep during the day time. We had some little robberies going on near my area and it scared me. I keep it in my purse usually though.

That is awesome! I sooo need to take some classes or something. It's pathetic... I do good to carry a freakin' 24 pack of cokes! Lol. I used to be pretty strong, but not so much anymore. I could use some working out that's for sure!

Lol about the parrot. Sounds like you have one hell of a body guard team!

Lol. I totally understand that. It's good to be prepared and protective like that. My partner's feels the same. If it came down to it, I'd absolutely shoot without hesitation, especially if the kids were in the house. Then, I'd shoot about 10 seconds quicker than I would if it were me alone. Of course I can't be totally sure since it's never happened and I hope it never does.

Glock, Remington and Colt. Followed up by 2 furry idiots that free range the inside and outside of the house with large teeth and a desire to rip limbs from bodies. Two to the head - one to the chest, empty the rest of the magazine then reload. After that we might call 911.

I just lock my doors, I don't really do much beyond that. I know my dogs would give some warning barks if anyone came inside although I don't think anyone would be too afraid of a westie and a pekingese. I keep pepper spray in my purse, but I've never had to use it. I won't allow a gun in my house, plus I don't think it is necessary.

dogs, household items that double as weapons, cell phone within reach at all times. and hate it if i'm the only one home.

keep outdoor lights on at night. always look out the door, day or night, before opening it.

be aware, but confident not fearful. always look people in the face when passing.

blah blah, yah i've put alot of thought and research, I could go on and on. my heart goes out to everyone that has suffered through scary situations. may you find empowerment and strength as the silver lining.

My last apartment was broken into twice within 4 months. The first time, I had left a window unlocked from when I'd had them open while moving in, since the power wasn't on yet and I needed the breeze. The 2nd time, they broke my bedroom window while I was at work. I refuse to live anywhere but 3rd floor or higher now!
