I took two Vipassana courses in Tuscany last year when I lived in Italy. The most amazing thing I've ever done in my life. Kudos to you for being disciplined enough to keep it going. I didn't last consistently more than 2 weeks with my practice after either course.

Thanks so much for sharing!

it helps if you keep the eyes closed, as the outside surroundings are irrelevant to how your breathing is occurring, and the sensations you feel in your body.

there are so many odd things that happen in meditation, and all, as my teacher put it, are 'normal.'

i had a feeling at one point like i couldn't breathe, like i had stopped breathing, and indeed, i had. my breath would on occasion slow to a near.stop. then pick up again. i also felt in turns incredibly emotional and would cry tears of joy.

lots of weird things happen!

according to my teacher it was a manifestation of the deeper stuff in our psyche coming to the surface. meditation of this sort is a bit like doing deep surgery on yourself, and the deeper you dig to remove the festering wounds, the more pus that comes to the surface. this may come in the form of frightening or sad thoughts, or pain in the body, or other strange occurrences.

meditation is super powerful.

Indeed.

Thanks, Alice. I had the impression that you had to keep your eyes open - or, perhaps, that was just me putting a spin on it (my theory is that, if you try to stay away, keep your eyes open, you'll go to sleep faster). Thinking back on it, the jumping images was pretty cool. Scary, but cool.

Again, thanks.

You left out two very common and easy ways chicka!

Reading anything else what is funny (whatever on the net, pictures, jokes, stories) and MOVIES!!!

Almost nothing works better for me than sitting down and watch one or a few of them, not only the funny movies but anything what I enjoy!

And of course never leave out the might of your precious one! It's enough to let him/her know a little somehow, telling or showing that you are moody and meh today, it takes an eyeblink to make you laugh your soul out and stay in the same rollicking frenzy for the rest of the day...!!! ~grins

I think I just occupy my mind usually with a story...so book or movie. Something that gets me laughing.
