Have you ever used a Ouija board?

I am thinking of buying one for my Halloween party... It has been years since we used one. Have you ever used one? Did it freak you out?

Yes I've used one, and no, it didn't freak me out. I deliberately was forming words that I wanted and some other girls really thought it was happening and one freaked out and cried! It was at one of my birthday parties in junior high and I just thought it'd be a funny a prank. One girl was all serious about it and flipped out on me when I took the clear plastic "eye" out of the thing you put your fingers on and accused me of letting in evil spirits or something. She creeped me out more than a dang mass produced board game. I wasn't allowed to have my own though, because my uncle (my father's brother) was completely against any of us kids having one.

Yeah, as a teenager, which was fun and kind of scary because I was young and testing out what the church I'd grown up in had said (essentially, it's a demon gateway and you'll be possessed).

They're safe fun. I guess I wouldn't find them fun anymore, but they were back in the day when there was some taboo thrill to 'em.

Yep! They are fun, but not freaky at all--there is a reason why the work they way they do, and all of it is based in science. Ever heard of the Ideomoter Phenomenon? You're moving the planchette subconsciously. It's a neat little toy, and would be fun for a Halloween party, as long as you don't get those weirdos who think that you can really conjure up demons and dead people through a Parker Bros. board game that's sold at any Toys R Us.

Never used a Ouija Board, but some friends and I did tried things that were similar when we were teenagers - I'm more cautious and don't mess around with those things anymore.

Yes I have used one in the past. I had the glow in the dark one.

My aunt (and family in general) were convinced that the game was "evil" (the demon gateway that snowyslut mentioned) and thus I never got to use one. >_< Depending on the company it seems like it could be fun.

I was talking to my cousin online about one a few months ago and she started getting all crazy scared on me and telling me not to talk about it. I dunno why..... * Evil Grin*

I messed around with one when I was a kid. Not anymore.

I think they are far from "safe." I have a belief that there are things outside our physical life and things like Ouija boards can bring unwanted entities into your home.

I didn't allow my children to have one and I would NEVER have one in my house.

It's like leaving your front door open, and leaving a recording going, saying, "C'Mon in. Do whatever you want."

I'd NEVER allow one in my house.

It has nothing to do with who makes the board, or where it is bought. Whether you use a board made in a factory or make your own with letters on a table and a wine glass, the result is the same risk: The basis of the board is that you are inviting things that you know NOTHING about into your home.

It's unwise, and I see no reason to mess with such things.

I think I did once or twice as a child. I regret it and would never do it again. I fully believe that there are things out there that we don't understand. I've experienced too many strange things in my life to play around with such a thing.

WOW. This is amazing to read. I am a hard core scientist. So is my hubby. We deal in data and facts. Our careers depend on a firm grip on measurable and reproducible phenomenon. We don't fret about a broken mirror, we could care less about a black cat walking across our path (unless it will let us pet it), we walk under ladders all the time (pull down steps on our attic) and have no interest in letting superstitious mumbo jumbo rule our lives. There are WAY too many REAL and provable threats out there, to worry about the "make believe". Having said all that, however, we BOTH did own these things as teens. Our parents did NOT know, and would likely NOT have approved. We BOTH used them (we didn't know each other then) and saw some things that WERE a bit freaky, and thus we agree 100% with everything you have said in these couple posts. In our careers we have worked with people in various stages of extreme physical stress, including near death or dying. We have indeed seen things that we cannot explain, as you say. There IS more then "out there" then our current five senses can grasp, and for whatever reason, we feel the EXACT same way as you about these boards. Sure, we understand that our fingers can direct a slider to "say" anything we want. We also know that is NOT what we observed happening with these things. In fact, when I was doing it with friends I asked a question concerning someone who had recently "passed away" and got a strange answer. Only later did I find out that I had received a "nick name" for this person...one I would have never had access to or heard, and it TOTALLY freaked out the person who DID know this name and realized I had learned it...and how.
Nope, I am NOT leaving any "doors open" with welcome mats out, for any strange and unknown...and likely malevolent....to come into my home or life. A little "possibly harmless fun" simply IS NOT worth it. Sorry.
Glad to know we are NOT alone in this feeling.

I've never used one. I don't think they work anyway.

On another note, many northern people have religious beliefs that make stores in the areas not permitted to sell them.

I think they're a bunch of crap.

Yes, I use it once in a while. The best is to write down your questions and answers as you do it (if about the future) and check back in a few months/years to see how things turned out! Some weird stuff has happened, and at times I have gotten freaked out, but it's a lot of fun! Get one!!!

My mom told me that since I was little. I was so scared but being that I don't believe in god or demons that doesn't interest me.
