This poll concerns world events. Have we, the U.S., gone too far for interfering with other nations governments? My own opinion is yes. Other peoples have the right to choose their government, to have civil wars, if that is what they choose. We had a law once on the books, that said we would never depose another countries leadership. Isn't that what we are now doing?

We as a nation have stepped into the affairs of other nations often without good need or justification. I totally agree with the aggressive and immediate dealing with a possible current or future threat to us by force and fully until that threat is removed completely. I however do not agree with the involvement we make based only on political motive or gain. The use of destabilization to create an atmosphere where a political group within a nation has an advantage by use of arms by us, or the UN, so that we have another "Democratic" society in the world is often a useless and expensive waste of our soldiers lives and our resources. The only purpose behind much of this is the gaining or retaining ongoing free trade in oil and natural resources that we would otherwise loose the ability to buy if the wrong side wins and the country in question refuses to trade with us, US and/or NATO. The other cause that is often overlooked that conflict brings is a major boost in jobs, industry and expenditure of products that generate revenue for our nations investors. Conflicts that could be dealt with in short order by judicious and appropriate application of force are kept at a simmering point or allowed to fester for years to keep the financial and job machine going. A huge side benefit that may not have been completely unintentional to our initial steps to become involved in World War 2 allowed for a huge recovery from the great depression and creation of jobs. Had the Iraq and Afg event's wrapped up years ago at the onset of the drop in our economy imagine the loss of jobs as a result of the drop in industry supporting the war effort and reconstruction. I surly don't agree with using a war as a means to create jobs - but politicians also don't like having to solve unemployment and financial crisis issues that a war will keep at bay for extended periods of time. If you can't tell I have no issue with us as a nation going out and kicking anyone elses ass in the world if they need it or will shortly be spinning up to deserve it, but to just get involved because we can't mind our ow business and must show them the way we think they should live - not a chance.
