I don't paint my fingernails--I wash too many dishes--but I do clip and buff them once a week. I like to keep my toenails painted, because it makes me feel pretty, feminine and pampered. I don't do acrylics at all, or special designs--I like to keep it simple.
Get your nails did, girl!

I keep my fingernails cut short and unpainted because my college classes often have me in contact with chemicals or outside where polish and length could be a hazard. *laughs*
I'll probably keep them that way post-school as well, simply because I've gotten used to it.
The toenails, though, are kept short and almost always nicely polished (often by one of my friends, although I'm working on bribing my SO into doing it for me). I have a bit of a foot fetish, so I really love keeping my toes all pretty for my partners to enjoy.
Someday I'll get over my fear of nail fungus and go to a spa and get a "real" pedicure.

I used to have long painted nails when I was a teen. Now, when I have a sex life, it's too uncomfortable and I don't care for it anymore.

I don't do gel or acrylics..I don't like how they look. There's an Aveda school not too far away that does cheaper mani & pedis..but the last time I went I wasn't too impressed..I know, I know they're learning! I have all the tools at home to do a manicure, so I do my own up keep of my nails.

I paint my nails as much as I can, though sometimes I will just trim or shape them as necessary. I love painting them a range of different colours and sometimes I try new patterns or a french tip. I did them with jewels once for a special occasion. Once in a while I get a manicure but I'd rather just do them myself.
I really want to try this new Shellac stuff, though. It uses a UV light or something to dry it and you have to do a lot of work to remove it (soak in acetone for 10 minutes or something). It looks fantastic though and won't chip or crack for about a month! I hope it gets developed to the point where you can do it yourself at home.

I work in nail design! I design acrylics so I'm always doing my nails or someone elses. I have some outrageous designs I always post the pics on my FB and our web store of my work. I love doing nails! I do get migraines though so the strong fumes tend to get to me a lot, but it's so worth it! I keep my nails painted (neon pink, always) and rarely get to do my own nails in acrylic with my signature 2 striped airbrush french with diamonds because they get ruined as soon as I design other's nails. I love the tthe times that I do get to keep acrylics on though, but I find it's rare these days. I also paint my own toenails. Usually neon pink or neon green, sometimes irridescant purple which is a fav! I love sparkles too so I'm always mixing my own colors and adding sparklies!

I hate that my polish comes off everytime I do the dishes. This is why sometimes I really don't even bother. But my toes are always painted no matter what. One thing I can't stand is going out somewhere with ugly toes.

STL, I always use nytril gloves to do the dishes (you can buy latex cleaning gloves if you aren't allergic to latex.) Dishes were ruining my hands, we have a large family. Years ago, I started using gloves to do any work that gets my hands wet, even to load the dishwasher (my kids are pigs, I have NO IDEA what is on some of their dishes, really) and it keeps my hands from excema and my nails nice.

I am famous for my long fngernails. I will only do primping on them if they break and get all uneven and ugly.

Just a couple of questions about your nails (mainly for those that identify themselves as female, but anyone can answer!)
If you do your fingernails and toenails differently, just fill out for both and check the next-to-last box.

A couple times a year, though, I'll paint them myself, usually in a shade of pink.

I know it sounds shallow, but I love having acrylics on my nails! Since money has been scare, I have been using store bought glue on nails. They are great for your nails! (heavy sarcasm)
Now, that I am working outside the home and finally will be getting a semi steady pay check, I am looking forward to "getting my nails did" once again! Yes, I have to pay bills and all those things, but I really feel good when my hands look nice.
That first paycheck, $45.00 will go to my favorite nail tech, and she'll get a big tip! Acrylics, done well so they don't hurt you or bleed, is expensive in our area. One place around here charges close to $100.00 for plain acrylics, more for Classic French Manicure, colors or decorations. Gel nails are even more expensive.
I have to get them short, because I'm working with babies a lot again, but short Classic French Manicure nails will be so nice to have again.
