I picked smell but I think I would now change it to taste because smell accounts for a huge part of our sense of taste.
Just for fun.. Which of your 5 senses would you sacrifice?

I'm already high tone deaf and near-sighted. So I would go with touch.
11/29/2011
I have to go with taste. I love smells, touch, seeing and hearing too much.
11/29/2011
I am going to have to say smell, just so I can go around farting and never smell anyone's! LOL

taste for sure. I need to see, feel, hear, and smell. My memories are connected to my smells! Maybe if I couldn't taste, I could lose these last few pounds!

I guess if I had to choose, it would be taste. I mean, I love food, but if I couldn't taste it I wouldn't have to worry about putting on weight and I'd only eat what was necessary.
Everything else is just too essential if you ask me. less

thats not true! my friend's mom can't smell, she has all the things to smell, her brain just doesn't process the smells, so she smells nothing. She can still taste though!

I would hate to give up any, but I'd choose smell because I think the loss of it would affect my life in the least intrusive way of the 5.
11/29/2011
I guess taste.
11/29/2011
Sometimes there have been occasions where I DID NOT want to pass the Smell Test in more ways than one. All the other senses I really, really need!

Decisions decisions, thats a hard one.

I stared at this question for like 15 minutes trying to decide which I could live without... Truth is, I couldn't live without any of them. I am a pastry chef by profession. I NEED taste, smell, sight and touch to work. I am also a foodie so without being a pastry chef, I would still need taste, smell and sight.
Hearing is also a big part of my life, apart from needing to hear timers and such. Music has always been one of my biggest outlets. The music I listen to determines my moods, changes my moods, and motivates me to do things like clean. I also couldn't live without hearing my loved ones voices. I plan on having kids (besides my step daughter) and I would be crushed if I couldn't hear them cry, say their first words, etc.

I had a friend with anosmia...he didn't seem to mind it too much. He developed it randomly at 16, but says he doesn't miss smell all that much. Of course, he can't taste things well anymore. I guess that's the one catch.
11/29/2011
Smell would be the easiest to go without for me
11/29/2011
I love that no person has picked to give up sight yet.
11/29/2011
smell for sure.

We have just over 15 senses (I think the correct number is 19). ESP is, thus, not the sixth sense.

The traditional five, and nociception, equilibrioception, proprioception and kinaesthesia, sense of time, thermoception, and possibly an additional weak magnetoception, chemoreception, photoreception, mechanoreception. As well as internal sensors.

I already lack a sense of direction...does that count?

I chose taste.
It would be sad to lose my sense of taste, but I could find ways around that I imagine. I can practically taste the foods in my mouth when I smell it, so it wouldn't be too big of a loss.

If I had to give one up, it would be smell.
12/04/2011
I don't know how anyone could live without taste
12/04/2011
Probably sense of smell because that seems to me as the least "important" sense I guess.
03/01/2012
I would pick taste, because it seems like the least important to my safety and well being. I would want my sense of smell so I would still be able to sense a gas leak or something like that. Hearing, vision, and touch seem absolutely vital to me though, especially when it concerns living my life safely.
The order I would give them up in would be taste, then smell, then hearing, then vision, then touch.

Good question, hard decision. They all have obvious benefits, and I'm lucky and blessed to still have all 5.
03/01/2012
Smell. I couldn't deal with losing the others, especially hearing. Music is a huge part of my life.
09/23/2012
smell would be the only one that wouldnt hurt you so much to give up
10/19/2012
Smell is important. Touch? Eh. I could do without it.
