I upload mine, but they are usually having to do with my articles rather than a picture of me.

I used a provided one for a few reasons: 1) I actually really like the look of the one I chose, 2) the one I chose does actually resemble me (not enough that you'd necessarily recognize me walking down the street, though), and 3) I haven't had a chance to do a photo shoot where I could pick a good non-identifiable photo of myself.

Once I get around to setting up my camera, doing up my makeup, and picking the right outfit I'll likely upload something personalized

I uploaded mine, right away. I didn't know they provided them, until I finally realized that the picture with the red shoes is not just one person. lol

One thought might help, check your internet settings, how high your blocking is for websites. Also if you're doing it from a mobile device I found it doesn't work as I tried from my iPad, a laptop or desktop computer works better so you can designate the storage path the file is located in.

My avatar is my own I uploaded. In the beginning I used one of the EF ones but wanted one to more uniquely identify myself as an individual without displaying my picture. I'm into birding, my avatar showing my favorite and in my new house I get them all the time in the late spring to early fall. It is also the body art/tattoo I've wanted all my life but was afraid to get.

I normally upload my own, but I feel so strongly about chilis representing me that I'm comfortable sticking with this image! I might upload my own chili image some day...

I agree it does get confusing, at least initially, when seeing the same avatar for different accounts.

I also didn't find an image that wasn't already being used a lot & that I loved. So, I looked at the cat at the end of the bed, grabbed the cell phone from the nightstand & snapped a photo. Now I just use that for anything that has an avatar.

The unexpected bonus was all the cat people who have contacted me on EF & send me hilarious or cute cat pix & gifs!

I uploaded mine, I love customizing! I also like to change things up from time to time but I kinda feel like I can't or shouldn't now because I've started recognizing people by their avatars like propertyofpotters and sam. I know yours! SPIKE! I love love love Cowboy Bee Bop
